With Oklahoma up 7-0, Sooner runmngback Jerald Moore coughed up the ball after rambling 47 yards to the Nebraska 14. “We turned it over a lot in anoth er game we played, which was a defeat,’’Gibbs said. “Field position played a major role, and then the turnovers played a major role in the outcome of the game.” Oklahoma gained 204 total yards compared to Nebraska’s 170, in cluding oulgaining the Huskers220 to 7K m the First half. “I thought m the First half, we probably controlled both sides ol the ball,” Gibbs said. “In the sec ond half, their defensive front took charge. I thought our guys, from a physical standpoint, played excel lent.” Gibbs said he was impressed with his defense, which held Husk er l-back Calvin Jones to S3 yards - 44 You can’t turn it over and miss opportunities like this and expect to beat a team like Ne braska - Gibbs Oklahoma coach on 25 carries. “Our defense played great and made big plays,” he said. “I don’t think you can say enough about how our defense played. Offen sively, we did a lot of good things in the first half. We just made too mistakes in the second half.” Linebacker Aubrey Beavers, who finished with five tackles and a sack, said the Sooners displayed the grit that they’ve showed all year. “We came out and hatl a hell ol a performance,” Beavers said. “We’ve been playing that way since the season started.” But. Beavers said, it wasn't like any other game to Oklahoma. "We were pumped up,” he said. "We stepped it up a notch this week. Their big plays just killed us. It’s tough to lose but the best team won.” Despite Oklahoma’s dominance of the statistics Friday, Gibbs said, Nebraska deserves to be consid ered among the nation’s best. "They are No. 1 in our league, and they are an outstanding foot ball team,” he said. “They stepped up and made the plays when they needed to.
