Butt-Head Continued from Page 9 you to take a word in each of the three columns and combine it to form a band name. Crazy as it sounds, there are about 30 perfect band names, including a personal favorite, Albino Meat Ship. Beavis and Butt-Head also probe topical issues to the best of their abilities. For instance, they conduct a short debate about whether David Lee Roth could kick Vince Neil’s ass. Also included is a hilarious history of the world synopsis. Writers Sam Johnson and Chris Marcil have successfully taken creator Mike Judge’s two characters—who’s most frequent expression is “Huh, Huh, Huh, Umm, Huh Huh” — and placed them in a 96-page paperback. No small feat, indeed. — Sean McCarthy Thackery Continued from Page 9 tional Steel body guitars. All of thfese instruments are back from the 20s.” Mandol ins and mandocellos also accompanied the two men to Ja maica. Prior to that recording expe rience, Thackery said he had never played a mandocello before. “It’s like a big bass mandolin and it sounds really, really cool. We didn’t just stick with guitars. We used all kindsofstringcd wack a-doo instruments—some of which I had never heard of.” After completing the album, a couple of thousand copies were distributed by Seymour Records, a private label, Thackery said. “But it was just a real sleeper,” he said. “It still shows up in gigs, people wanting an autograph on them from time to time, but we didn’t really do anything more. We put it out and went on about our business.” The idea of re-releasing the al bum came about after Thackery mentioned the tape to the folks at his record label, Blind Pig. “I started talking to them about it, and they said, ‘Oo-o, that sounds good,’ cause John’s first two records were on Blind Pig a long time ago,” he said. Thackery’s next challenge was locating the original tapes. “I searched around in my closet and found the masters. Of course they were almost ready to self destruct,” he said. “We had to send them back to the factory to have - 44-— .. the fact of the matter is i did this record way before any of these unplugged Jerks even got the idea. ” — Thackery blues guitarist _— •• — them baked, so they would play one time all the way through.” When he was f anally able to pi ay the tapes all the way through, Mooney and Thackery were both surprised by what they heard. “We actually found some extra cuts we had forgotten about,” Thackery said. Which means the 1993 version varies slightly from the 1985 tape, he said, “We changed the order and re w w mixed it so it sounds real nice and big and warm. And (we) put a couple of extra cuts on it and took a couple that maybe we didn’t like so much off,” he said. The re-mixing resulted in ten tracks of pure and simple blues, as smooth as Bacardi rum sipped by the seaside. Thackery and his band the Driv ers are scheduled for a winter show, February 17, at the Zoo Bar. —By Jill O'Brien 60s For §gj£ New and used bicycles, expert repair on all brands.
