Cyclone coach: It’s not over
Walden says
Iowa State still
determined

Cyclone coach Jim Walden had a
message for Nebraska following Sat
urday’s 49-17 Nebraska victory.
“I’m sure (Nebraska) got their re
venge,” he said. “But that doesn’t
change anything. We are still going
to try to whip their butts next year at
our place.”
Walden said Iowa State wa,s not
satisfied with last year’s 19-10 victo
ry and especially, this year’s defeat.
“They are not going to beat our
spirit,” he said. “We’re going to do
our damnedest to beat them again
next year and again after that.”
Walden said he thought Nebraska 1
was a better team than Iowa State i
this year. <

“We gave them a helluva
kickstart,” Walden said.
“You don't want to spot Nebraska
14 points. I’m not sure any team in
the country could do that against Ne
braska.”
Iowa State played well aftei the
initial first-quarter barrage. Walden
said. The first series of the second
half was the pivotal point of the game.
Nebraska started the opening pos
session of the half at its own 19-yard
line. Two plays after a 10-yard pen
ilty pushed the Huskers back to the
T Jones ran for 64 yards to the Iowa
State nine. Quarterback Iommie
Frazier then capped the drive with a
J-yard touchdown to give Nebraska
i 28-10 lead with 12:1 1 remaining in
the third quarter.
“After we got over the shock, I
thought our guys settled in and played
pretty good until the second series of
the first half,” Walden said. "We
hoped we could come out of the dress
ing room (after halftime) and shut
them down.”
But when the Cyclones had Ne
braska pinned deep, Walden said,
they let up. Walden said he sensed
danger after Nebraska was penalized
10 yards to set up first dow n and 20.
“We are the worst long yardage
team in the United States, ’ he said.
‘Every time we have a first and 20,
we let up.
“I don’t know if it’s some relax
ing thing or maturity, but I just cringe
every time the offense we play gets a
penalty."
