On a big stage, an actor must be
all elbows and knees if the people in
the back are going to get the jokes.
Up close an actor must be all eye
brows and lips.
Audience members, even in the
back, can see every expression of the
actor’s face, every twitch of the lip,
every line of the brow.
Pacing, blocking, timing — ev
erything changes on the small stage.
“Mike and Susan,” and the the
final one-act, “The Tiger,” made the
most appropriate use of the stage with
excellent footwork by the players and
some genuinely memorable moments
from Judd Fetters and Don Wright,
respectively.
But “The Enchanted Mesa” was
poorly chosen for the small stage,
besides being a rather uninteresting
and poorly written piece.
Part of the evening’s difficulties
will already have been solved by this
writing, no doubt. The show seemed
to be working out some kinks that
first night.
In all, the production seemed a
little rushed. With putting up a stag<
and rehearsing all at once, Silver def
initely had his hands full.
A little more time for workin]
might have done the trick.
In all, the production survived th<
intrusion of the TV camera from hell
opening night jitters find some appar
ently last minute cast shifting, quit
admirably.

“I’m pleased to have it happen
ing,” George said. ‘“No Alterna
tive’ can go a long way to raise
consciousness. It can relate how to
deal, live and work with people
who have AIDS.”
McCallum said he appreciated
the initial support of AIDS aware
ness by the artists on the album.
“It’s a nice thing when you have
artists who are so strong to get
together to donate new songs for
this album,” he said. “The pro
ceeds of the album are going to a
good cause, too.”
McCallum said by using the al
bum to raise AIDS awareness, the
effort was targeting more college
students.
“This is very specifically at
tracted to college students,” he said.
“By localizing the focus of this
project, we can further heighten
their awareness.”
George said the young adult
population was an important group
to inform because they were the
counted the highest among people
with AIDS.
“It’s great to get attention in
their teens to their 30s,” he said.
“This age group is also helping
people understand the need of char
itable giving.”
“Even if they can’t donate a lot
of money to big events they can
contribute on a smaller scale,” he
said.
The all-ages listening party
Monday begins at 10 p.m. at The
Edge. McCallum said he would
put the album on sale at midnight.
“We plan to raise a few hun
dred dollars while providing in
formation that is both informative
and enjoyable,” he said.
McCallum said the support he
received from the local businesses
was vital to the fundraising effort.
The Edge will be donating drink
proceeds to the foundation, he said.
The Planet was also providing free
air time and live call-ins to the
event.
“This is a very nice community
awareness project,” he said. “There
is an intense attraction to do so
much good.”
George said he appreciated the
organizations who were making
the fundraiser possible.
McCallum said he was encour
aged by the opportunity to involve
smaller businesses in the project.
He said there was almost a man
date to provide assistance.
“Individual artists and local
businesses can get a positive feel
about intervention if motivated to
do so.”
