NE 68502 Travis Heylng/UN Cornhusker right cornerback John Reece celebrates after picking off Colorado quarterback Kordell Stewart’spass in the fourth quarter of Nebraska’s 21-17 victory over the Buffaloes Saturday. Tne interception, Reece’s first of the season, thwarted Colorado’s final drive of the day. Title talk Continued from Page 7 Frazier said. “This is a big relief,” he said. “This takes a lot of pressure off. “We just have to take it game by game. A ton was taken off of us, but there’s still three or four tons still on us.” And the Comhuskers expected that much weight on their shoul ders, Alberts said. “We’ve been talking about go ing undefeated since spring prac tice,” he said. “If we go undefeated we deserve to be considered. “We expect to win every game. We’ll find a way to win.” With regular-season games left against Kansas, Iowa State and Oklahoma, Wright said, the Husk ers haven’t reached their peak yet. “This is just a week’s progress," he said. “We’ve got so much more to go, it’s incredible.” Osborne also said the Huskers had a lot of improving to do. “We’ve got a lot of work left to do,” he said. “We’ve got to keep winning. The players want to win every game, and they’ll find a way to get it done somehow.” Frazier said the Colorado win would help out in the long run. “With national championship hopes on the line, if the game’s close, I guarantee we’ll pull it out,” he said. We’re going to find a way to pull it out.” The past few years, it has been said that Nebraska has trouble win ning the big game, especially bowl games. Not so anymore, safety John Reece said. The Colorado game “proved to everybody that we can win the big game,” he said. “We’re for real in the national title race.” NOTE: • Frazier practiced Tuesday but didn’t throw because of an injury to his throwing shoulder against Col orado. Jones participated in about half of practice, but Osborne said Jones was still a little weak after suffering stomach and leg cramps during the Colorado game. Left guard Rob Zatechka and free safety Troy Dumas both missed practice for the second straight day with ankle injuries, but Osborne expects both back Wednesday. Reserve linebacker John Martin, a junior, hurt his knee Tuesday. Osborne said he didn’t know the extent of the injury. Hoops Continued from Page 7 fill Gregory’s spot, but Nee said re placing the 6-foot-11 Chandler would be tougher. With the absence of a true center on the team, freshman Mikki Moore’s playing time could be substantial ifhe at all. x said redshirting Moore was still a possibility because the 6-foot 11,195-pound Moore was still grow ing and might not be ready for the physical low-post play in the Big Eight. “Mikki Moore is a very young and | talented player but we still aren’t sure what we are going to do,” Nee said. “We have gone back and forth be tween whether we should redshirt him or let him play. But we will make a decision along with Mikki after we have some more time toevaluate him.” Despite the departure of Chandler, Gregory and point guard Andre Woolridge, the Huskers return seven players who each averaged more than IS minutes per game last season. Eric Piatkowski, an All-Big Eight guard/forward and Wooden Award candidate, leads the list of returners. Point guard Jamar Johnson and for ward Bruce Chubick are the only re turners who started every game last season. Nebraska should be small, quick and aggressive, Nee said. Nee said he was beginning to make changes in the Huskers’ offensive scheme for play ing without a center. “We may go to more of a run-and shoot, but we have got the ball up pretty quick in the past so that won’t be too big of a change,” Nee said. NOTE: • The Huskers held their first prac tice at noon Saturday and practiced again Saturday evening. The Huskers also practiced twice Sunday. However, the practices took their toll on some of the players. Freshman Mikk i Moore and senior forward Tom Best both were slowed by ankle inju ries Monday, but Nebraska coach Danny Nee said the injuries were minor and that both players would continue to practice. crank h • Computers • Laser Printers • Color Prints & Copies • Quiet Work Spaces Escape to Kinko's and crank out the work! 1201 "Q" Street • 475-2679 330 N. 48th Street • 466-8159 kinko's - the copy center - M • ' • ’ Hill I—li liHIIIIIII HI Volleyball pulls ahead in polls From Staff Reports Nebraska moved to No. 14 in the Volleyball Monthly poll and No. 9 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 with wins over Kansas State and Colorado last week.
