From Staff Reports
Nebraska football coach Tom
Osborne said Wednesday that quar

from the ankle sprain he suffered
against North Texas.

has on a Wednesday since he got
hurt,” Osborne said. “He’s still not
100 percent, but he appeared to be a

“I think we had a good practice,”
Osborne said. “We did back off a little

NU player gets
national honor
From Staff Reports
Nebraska linebacker Trev Alberts
has been named the college football
defensive player of the week by Sports
Illustrated.
Alberts, a 6-foot-4-inch, 240-pound
senior from Cedar Falls, Iowa, made
a career-high 12 tackles — 10 unas
sisted—and had two sacks for 3 yards
lost in the Huskers’ 14-13 win Satur
day over UCLA.

And if the Blackshirts learn to
tackle while they attack, they will
benefit from their new, aggressive
formation.
But, as Saturday proved, they’ll
also get burned by big plays and big
busts up the middle. And everyone
knows that Buffaloes stampede up the
middle better than Bruins do.

The Buffaloes’ offense — until
coach Bill McCartney got conserva
tive in the fourth quarter—was more
potent than ever. Their defense left
something to be desired.
So did Nebraska’s. And so does
Nebraska’s schedule.
After their matchup with Miami,
the Buffaloes will have two fourth
quarter tests — and probably losses.
That’s two more tests than Nebras
ka will have.
But does that mean the Buffaloes
will have the advantage?
History — 1990—says yes. The
talfcnt ofTommie Frazier, Calvin Jones
and Trev Alberts says no.
Wake me up when the battle gets
here. Goodness knows I won’t sleep
through that one.
