will, “Take listeners to the source.”
“Experiencing different kinds of
music might bring people to a better
understanding,” he said. “Maybe ...
world peace. I don’t know.”
“I hope it might make people think
differently about things. Like, what is
hip? What’s square?”
The band really has two new albums
out, one in Japan called “Kikosuimaru
Meets Brave Combo: Ondo Saves the
World.”
This album features a highly
politicized version of classical ondo
style—with one tune about AIDS and
another, on Japanese politics, called
“Godzilla.”
The songs were composed in Japan.
Then. “We took ‘em and mutated
‘em” Bames said, into something that
can be neither East nor West.
But that’s what Brave Combo does
— and they do it extremely well.

The band played here last year and
sparked great enthusiasm, particularly
with a band of Lincoln musicians now
performing as The Fungis.
“Lincoln has been a good town for
us,” Bames said.
And Brave Combo has certainly
been good to us.

Tattoo

leaving ink behind. The skin heals
over the punctures* and the tattoo
becomes permanent.
The needles cause some pain,
and physical discomfort is another
factorprospective customers should
consider.
“It hurt,” Ewoldt said. “It wasn’t
excruciating, though. After awhile,
it gets to where it’s kind of a
numbing feeling. It’s just an
annoying pain.”
Cost is another consideration.
The price varies with each size and
design requested, Ley said.
Large artwork, such as scenic
work or large animals, starts at
approximately $50. Roses, hearts,
fraternity letters and other smaller
designs average about $30.
Smaller tattoos, though iess

expensive, are discouraged, Ley
said.
“The smaller the tattoo, the less
we can do with it,” Ley said. “They
tend to lose their beauty and shape
sooner.”
Custom tattoos are available for
a minimal design fee and
encouraged by both artists.
“The stuff on the walls is
something a lot of people will be
getting,” Ley said. “With so many
people getting tattoos, there’s a
chance that something you pick off
the wall has been done at least once
or twice on somebody else.”
“Custom tattoos are nice because
you’ll be the only one walking
around with it," he said.
Soto said customers should
make sure the tattoo they pick is
one they really like and can live
with. The medical procedure for
removing a tattoo is very expensive.
“I doubt I’ll ever have my tattoo
taken off,” Ewoldt said. “I guess it
scars just as bad to remove it. I’m
proud of it now.”
