The student season tickets are valid for 14 home games and cost $42. Comhuskers meet goals, sweep weekend tourney By Tim Pearson Senior ffcoorttr _ The Nebraska volleyball team came into the Arby’s Classic hungry for wins and improvement. The sixth-ranked Cornhuskers found the recipe they wanted, win ning all three matches in the tournement at the NU Coliseum this weekend to raise their record to 7-0. On Friday, Nebraska beat Louis ville 15-6, 15-4, 14-16,15-1. Nebraska swept both matches Sat urday. The Huskers beat Wyoming 15-3,15-2,15-5 in a match that took only 59 minutes. They then won against No. 25 Washington 15-1,15 4, 15-7 Saturday night before a sea son-high crowd of 2,851. Husker coach Terry Pettit said he was pleased with how his players performed but was disappointed they didn’t put away their opponents soon er. “We let up at times this weekend,” he said. “But we made some progress this weekend. “I don’t know that the wins told us much, because Washington is hurt by injuries.” The Huskers came out quickly against the Huskies. After Washing ton scored the first point, Nebraska scored 15 unanswered points to seal the first game. Washington coach Bill Neville said injuries had decimated his team up to this point. “We’re missing about nine play ers,” Neville said. “This was the sec ond match that Marya Jensen hadever set, because our No. 1 setter is injured with a bad back. “It’s tough for Marya to come into an intense environment like this and be a quarterback to a ball club.” Pettit said tempo and passing were keys to the match. “We were passing right to Nikki (Strieker), and our tempo was much quicker than theirs,” he said. “They had trouble adjusting to that.” In the second game, Nebraska scored nine points before the Huskies could get on the board. Nebraska won 15-4. Nebraska fell behind 5-1 early in the third game, but the Huskers scored 14 of the next 16 points to take the victory. Nebraska setter Nikki Strieker was named the tournament’s Most Valu able Player. She was joined by three other Huskers — middle blockers Allison Weston and Jen McFadden and outside hitter Maria Hedbeck — on the all-tournament team.
