Aspegren had nine kills, which was second to soph omore Billie Winsett’s 10. Winsett had five of her kills in the third set. “Nikki did a nice job,” Pettit said. “She really set the tempo of the game and kept the team organized out there. Kelly Aspegren was successful, but a lot of it was Nikki’s ability to isolate her.” In the second game, the Huskers again jumped out to a big lead early. Nebraska led 9-1 before the Hawkeyes scored four points to make it 9-5. Nebraska then scored the last six points to put the second game away. Iowa coach Linda Schoenstedt, in her third year as the Hawkeyes’ coach, said her team just didn’t adjust to the atmosphere the first two games of the match. “This is a great place to come play,” she said. “It’s probably one of the funnest places in the nation to play. Aspegren, who walked on in 1991, said the scholar ship has helped her focus on her play, defense, and outside hitting. Nebraska assistant coach Cathy Noth said Aspegren has shown that she has earned her scholarship. “Kelly’s development started in. the spring of this year,” Noth said. “We feel she has become a complete player and what we saw defensively ana offensively showed us just how much she contributed to the team tonight.” With the way Aspegren played Wednesday night, Noth said, it will be exciting to see how well she does against all of the upcoming competi tion. Nebraska meets West Virginia and Pittsburgh in the Penn St. Invita tional on Friday and Saturday. “We’re anxious to see how she comes along this season, especially this weekend,” Noth said.
