THE NEBRASKA STATE RAW BIGGER THAN EVER September 3-12 LINCOLN _ Missouri defensive coaches trying to turn things around _/ _ . TL„ .la.nra annw CAniAf Hpfrn. COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — As much as Bob Stull has been under fire for his average of three victories a season at Missouri, it’s the defensive coordinators who’ve seemingly taken the fall. Skip Hall, the Tigers’ fourth de fensive coordinator in four seasons, hopes to close the revolving door. He said he’s not worried that he’s the fourth in line, or that Missouri, 3-8 last year, was dead last in the Big Eight in total defense the last two seasons. He just wants to be judged on his merits. “What happened last year and the year before is ancient history to me,” Hall said. “What happens today, to morrow and the next day, that’s very important to me. 4lI hope we can bring in some sta bility and some confidence and a good aggressive package that these players will be able to grab onto, anai veineu to instill a belief that we can win.” One thing already in place is good chemistry with the head coach. Hall and Stull go back to 1971, when Hall was a graduate assistant and Stull an assistant coach at Kent State. Both were assistants under Don James at Washington. “I wouldn’t sugarcoat it or any thing, but I think there’s been a good healthy respect and a good friendship between us,” Hall said. Hall’s style of coaching also ap pears to be a good fit. Like nis prede cessor, Don Lindsey, who left to be come defensive coordinator at South ern California, he will use an attack ing style of play. “That’s been a real easy adjust ment,” Stull said. “He’s real easy to work with, and his style is similar to what we used last year. Actually, it's easier to play." A BBV ---- sive end Rick Lyle, one of eight re turning starters, said this has been the best of his four transitions. “It’s hard to get into a groove when they change defenses every year,” Lyle said. “But it’s been smoother this year than in the past.” Lindsey had a lot of success in his single season, shaving 134 points off the season total allowed and 104 yards per game off the 1991 numbers. Hall said the big difference between him and Lindsey is he’ll take more chanc es. “We’re becoming even more ag gressive,” Hall said. “Last year, they kind of laid the foundation, and this year we’re going to push the pedal to the metal, so to speak.” For the first time in his five years at See MISSOURI onlt Alumni Continued from Page 9 said. Pettit said Luther will probably play, but Pettit won’t use her on the front line Saturday night. “She’s a little healthier,” he said. “We had her ball-handling a little bit in practice. We’ll have her playing in the back row.” Tonniges, a starter the past two seasons and the Huskers’ lone return ing middle blocker, has been slowed by a sore back in practice this week. “Kim’s probably questionable for Saturday,” Pettit said. “We’ll wait and see how she feels.” • Pettit said he is looking for im provement from his team when they take on the alumnae. “Our pursuit of the ball hasn’t been good,” he said. Pettit said his team will treat the match like any other. “It’ll be a lot of fun,” he said I All-American Nebraska Alumnae The following All-Americans and 10 other Husker Alumnae will face Nebraska Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the NU Coliseum. ---1 THE FIRSTIER SURVIVAL KIT...
