Nebraskan Thursday, August 12,1993 Akts®Entertainment burgeon wrongly convicted goes on run in suspense-filled ‘Fugitive’ “The Fugitive” By Gerry Bettz Staff Reporter “The Fugitive” (Stuart, East Park 3) will likely be this summer’s run away hit. It has tons of action, lots of sus pense, oodles of drama and just enough comedy to make it an all-around en joyable film. More importantly, however, it stars both Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, two of Hollywood's holiest pieces of cinematic property today. The story revolves around Dr. Ri chard Kimble (Ford), a distinguished Chicago surgeon that is accused of brutally murdering his wife Helen (Sela Ward, from the television series “Sisters”). Kimble tells police of the one-armed man that was at the scene, but he is wrongly convicted of the crime and sentenced to death. Chi his way to the prison, however, other prisoners on Kimble'sbus botch a bloody escape attempt. The bus rolls onto a set of railroad tracks, and Kimble narrowly escapes the colli sion between an oncoming train and the prone bus. He goes on the run, simul tancously trying to catch his wife's killer while avoiding the relentless manhunt head ed by U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard (Jones). Jones is the gem of the movie. His on-screen time is absolutely hypnot ic, and his character — although ob sessive — has an humorously egotis tical streak to it After examining Kimble’s activities since the escape, Gerard eventually gets caught between his increasing self-doubt that he is hunting an innocent man and his re lentless desire to catch Ford. A rollercoaster ride of a film, with very few slow spots, “The Fugitive” is definitely worth running to. Cheap Trick singer releases hit “Robin Zander” Robin Zander Interscope Records By Jill O’Brien Staff Reporter “Robin Zander” is one of the best new releases of the summer. On Zander’s self-lillcd debut, the soloing lead singer of Cheap Trick combines emotive vocals and gentle guitar runs to evoke a wide range of passionate musical moods. As a veteran of the rock scene, Zander has acquired a knack for mix ing the right ratio of heart-throbbing lyrics with instrumental accompani ment and dynamic vocals. The result is 12 tracks of memorable mainstream ballads. A group of handpicked, fine-tuned musicians back Zander on every groove. The line-up features Cheap Trick’s bassist Tom Peterson and songwriter Rick Nielsen, Hcartbrcak ers’ Mike Campbell, ex-Eagle Don Felder, Eurythmics’ guitarist Dave Stewart and drummer Mick Fleetwood. Even pianist Dr. John was recruited to pound out Slonc-likc rhythm and blues on “Emily.” Besides the catchy croons and love songs, the man of one thousand voices really excels on ducts with leading rock ladies. On the opening track, “Reaction ary Girl, his vocals arc pared with the spunky swing or Maria McKcc and again wilh McKcc on the melt-down intimacy of her composition, “Show Me Heaven.” The husky whisper of Stevie Nicks backs Zander’s aural passion on “Se cret” while high-pitched Christina Amphlctt of the Divinyls duels with Zander on the snappy track of “Boy (I’m So in Love With You).” Other songs include the covers, “I Believe in You” (Neil Young) and the disco-paced “Jump Into The Fire” (Harry Nilsson). BulZandcr originals “I’ve Always Got You” and “Tell It To The World,” both co-pcnncd by J.D. Souther, testify to singer’s prow ess as songwriter. Although Zander’s theme never strays from romantic k)vc, each song could hold its own on the Billboard charts. Diamond Education!
