Ten Bensel’s lime of 4 minutes, 16.42 seconds was thcihird-faslcst time in school history and itautomati cally qualified her for the NCAA com petition. Paulette Mitchell broke her own school record in the shot put with a throw of 52-fcct, 6 and 3/4 inches. On the men’s side, Robert Thomas won two events to lead Nebraska to a victory over Minnesota and Kansas. Thomas won the long jump and the triple jump. His triple jump of 51 feet, 5 and 3/4 inches was an NCAA provi sional qualifying mark. Nebraska’s Andy Meyer also had an NCAA-provisional mark in the discus with his throw of 187 feet, 11 - inches. 1 On the women’s side, NU’s Des tiny Liebl posted an NCAA qualify ing mark in the high jump with a leap of six feet. Other event winners for the men included Travis Grant in the 200 meter dash, David Itclfa in the 5,000 metcr run, Willie Hiblcr in the 1 IO meter hurdles and Pctar Malesav in the high jump with a leap of 7 feet and 1/4 inches. The men’s 4 X 100 meter relay team of Travis Grant, Isaac Carson, Tyrone Hughes and Thomas won the 406-meter relay. The men’s 1600-meter relay team also won. For the women, Kwani Stewart won the long jump and the 100-mcicr hurdles, Nicola Martial won the triple jump. The 400-mctcr relay team of Tranquil Wilson, Stewart, Janna Hammon and Jenny Johnson also won. Sanders said it was Sagmocn’s decision to bunt. “He asked to bunt, and I granted him the opportunity,” Sanders said. “The third baseman was back and Marc placed the bunt perfectly.” Huskcr senior Brian Marlin look the mound for the second game and tossed eignt innings, striKing out a season-high 11 and allowing one run in the 7-1 victory. Freshman left fielder Darin Erstad got the Huskcrs off to a fast start with the first of his two home runs in the , first inning. Erstad drove a Tom Ma son pitch over the right-field fence for a three-run shot to pul the Huskcrs up 4-0. Erstad homcrcd again in the bot tom of the fifth with two men on base to give the Huskcrs a 7-0 lead.
