“Since then. I’ve formed a reli
gious attachment to bicycle helmets,”
Baldwin said. “They’re vital if you
crash. They make the difference of
whether you live or die.”

had a helmet,” Rizijs said.
Most of the injured bikers who go
to the health center are not suffering
from head injuries, she said.
“However, there is always a good
possibility of sustaining one if a per
son does not wear a helmet.”

bicycle injuries were diagnosed as
open head wounds,” Heins said.
Bicycle helmets can reduce head
injuries by up to 95 percent and the
risk of brain injury by almost 90 per
cent, she said.
Heins said that because of the risk
associated with helmctlcss riding, the
LincoIn-LancastcrCounty Injury Pre
vention Coalition decided to sponsor
the Keep A Head, Wear A Helmet
campaign.
The campaign, which began
Wednesday, will run through June,
she said.
