“I just think it was a tremendous
defensive effort,” Beck said. “They
all contributed in some way or the

Brown led all scorers with 26 points
and 13 rebounds. Guard Sara Offringa
scored 15 and Jennings added 14.
Husker guard Meggan Yedsena had a
game-high seven assists.
Nebraska took its biggest lead of
the game, 69-39, with 8:19 left after a
basket by Dina Haselip. TheHuskers’
lead was never less than 20 through
out the second half.
“We were out of sync the whole
night offensively,” said Marpc, whose
team finished its season at 16-12.

Angeles Sunday for a second-round
date with third-seeded Southern Cali
fornia.
Beck said she was pleased with the
final home performance of her team,
which was played before a season
high crowd of 5,993 fans.
“I think that shows how women
can play. I think they respect what we
did and how we played tonight,” Beck
said. “These young women are very
dedicated and they deserve to have
this type of exposure.”

For the moment, Brown said she
would savor her contribution to Ne
braska women’s basketball history.
“I can look back and say, 'Hey,
that was a fun game,”’ she said.
Wrestlers hoping to continue
winning trend at NCAA meet

The Nebraska wrestling team hasn ’ t
lost anything for almost two months.
They’re hoping the trend contin
ues at least through this weekend at
the NCAA Championships.
The tournament, which will be held
at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa,
starts tonight and will run through
Saturday.
Comhusker coach Tim Neumann
said that his team had a definite shot
of winning it all.
“If we’re at the top of our game, I
think we’ll win it,” he said. “If we can
get three or four guys in the finals,
we’ll have a good chance.”
Getting three or four wrestlers in
may be easier since the Huskers are
one of two teams, the other being
Penn State, that qualified wrestlers in
all 10 weight divisions.
“If they can all win one match,
(having 10 wrestlers) will be a huge
advantage,”Neumann said. “Wehave
scoring potential at each weight.”
The Huskers are coming off of a
Big Eight title win, which they won
by a half-point over Iowa State two
weeks ago.
Neumann said he was hoping to
use the close race at the Big Eight
meet to the Huskers’ advantage.
“The wrestlers have worked a lot
smarter in practice, and we’ve hope
fully corrected our weaknesses,”
Neumann said. “It’ll be a tight race at
the NCAA meet. It’ll be just like the
Big Eight, but with 110 teams in the
race.”
Neumann said the Huskers need
strong performances from their se
niors.
Neumann said senior John Buxton,
at 118, could be a surprise to his
opponents.
“He Vas great at the Big Eight
meet. He’ll be better at nationals,” he
said. “He showed that he could move
down a weight and compete. He’s as
good as anybody in his weight.”
Husker Frank Velazquez, after
winning the Big Eight title at 134, will
compete for a title, Neumann said.
“Frank will be seeded at the na
tional tournament, and that always
helps,” he said. “He’s a big match
wrestler. He won three titles in high
school and two in junior college.”
In the higher weights, Neumann
said Corey Olson, Ovanes Oganisian
and Rulon Gardner need to do better
than they did at the Big Eight meet.
Olson will be in pursuit of his first
national title after a runner-up finish
last year and a third-place finish in
1990.
“Olson is a national tournament
wrestler. I think Corey will win at
nationals,” Neumann said.
Neumann said that this may be the
closest tourney ever.
“This will be the best national tour
nament in the last 15 years,” he said.
“The whole tournament may come
down to the heavyweight match.”
