Zeitgeist, a Minneapolis-based ensemble of four musicians, plays works by living composers only. In past 20 years, more than 50 American composers have been commissioned to create new works for the group. One of the group’s biggest accom plishments is disproving the notion that contemporary music m ust be dis sonant and dry. Instead, the group produces lyrical and engaging sounds with keyboards, percussion and winds. Not only will the group perform at the Carson Theater Saturday at 8:00 p.m., they will give a mini concert at the Zoo Bar from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets for the Saturday performance can be purchased at the door prior to the show or at the Lied Center Box Office today. _ Sarah Duey , Second Ulnd Vintage Clothing and Collectables r 720 "O" Street Diary of a Madman I T/M, I HAVE TO 3TUPV YOu IM LOSING IT TIM!MAYDAY!] ' CAN'T LE T me pall ASLEEP | M GOING OOWN* MAYDAY'J [--1 i--f -~~^ MAyPAY \j IvMO P H4VC THOUGHT >bu ^ tJ W.w COULP HNP SUCH HI6H ' PI?AMA IN A PHVSIC5 6COK ■ .. World-class opera performer to bring talents to Lied Center It’s not every day that an audience in Lincoln can listen to a world-class opera singer. Even less of an opportunity gener ally exists for Nebraskans to hear one of the great opera voices of the 20th century. But once again, the Lied Cento for the Performing Arts de lights in giving a Lincoln audience an extraordinary opportunity to experi ence the talent of Leontyne Price Sun day at 7 p.m. Though she technically retired from the operatic stage after a series of performances of “Aida” at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Price still makes a limited number of appearances, one of them being the Lied Center two seasons ago. Price was considered by many crit ics to be one of the great Verdi sopra nos throughout the 1960s, 70s and early 80s, and her voice has received rave reviews at all the world’s major opera houses. Price will perform a program fea turing American songs and spirituals that reflect her background growing up in Laurel, Miss., as well as music that made her famous as an opera singer. Tickets are $32, $28, $24 and half price for students. — George K.
