Hoosiers whip Purdue; Graham sets new high BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Greg Graham scored a career-high 32 points, including a Big Ten-record 26 from thefree-throw line, as top-ranked Indiana defeated arch-rival No. 14 Purdue 93-76 Sunday. Deprived of one of its inside weap ons by a knee injury that sidelined Alan Henderson, the Hoosiers moved to the outside early and free-throw line late to extend the nation ’ s longest home-court winning streak to 29. Graham, who missed only two free throws, had his best previous scoring effort with 25 points last season. He topped the conference mark of 25 free throws set by former Hoosier Don Schlundt. Indiana overcame a career-best 32 points by Cuonzo Martin and 24 by Big Ten scoring leader Glenn Robinson despite making only seven field goals in the final 12 minutes. Calbert Cheaney, Indiana’s lead ing scorer, fouled out with 6:42 to play. He had 14 points, bringing his career total to 2,406 points. He needs 33 more to become Indiana’s all-time scoring leader and 37 more to top the conference record held by former Michigan star Glen Rice. Freshman Brian Evans came off the bench and scored 20 points for Indiana. The Hoosiers (24-2,13-0 Big Ten) are seeking to become the first team to go undefeated in Big Ten play since its 1975-76 team. Purdue is 15-6,6-6. Hoops Continued from Page 7 too much,” Beck said. “I just don’t want to make a big deal out of it. There’s a lot of stress and a lot of pressure.” The loss eliminated the Huskers from Big Eight title contention but still leaves them in the running for a spot in the 48-team NCAA tourna ment. The Huskers dropped to 18-6 overall and 8-4 in the Big Eight. JMee Continued from Page 7 to 4-6 and fell to 15-10 overall. It was the fourth straight conference loss for the Tigers. While Johnson stole the spotlight with his play in the game’s final sec onds, Pidtkowski used consistent shooting to lead Nebraska with 20 points and eight rebounds. Nee said he was impressed with Piatkowski, whose contribution helped offset five Tigers who scored in double figures. “The guy is a great basketball player— when he is within the game and lets it come to him, he's not great, 8-g'iT becomes super,” Nee said. “He ’t doing anything Piatkowski can’t night in and night out.” But, Nee said, it was a team effort that gave the Huskers the victory. “We had good play from every one,” he said. We have a long way to go, but I feel we're headed in the right direction.” / \ » i 475-2281 City Campus 239 N. 14th Street Dine-In, Delivery or Carryout 466-5533 East Campus 2340 N. 48th Street Delivery or Carryout Special Value!
