UNL Continued from Page 9 the problem. The obvious solution is to deduce whether or not whomever I’m talking to is or isn’t from Ne braska, and then I’ll know to say Lincoln or NU. Then again, that doesn’t always work. I told a former Lincolnite I went to Lincoln. He asked me what I was doing in high school (Lincoln High) 60 miles from home. My main problem is that none of the other campuses are on par with UN L. UNO doesn ’ t have dorm itories. UNO and UNK are not Division I-A schools. Omaha doesn’t even have doctorates that I know of, and its graduate program s, to m y know ledge, are all supervised by Lincoln. And I haven’t heard of any academic pro gram that is offered at UNO or UNK, but not Lincoln. I think the Medical Center should stay with the University system. It’s technically a graduate program, simi lar in some ways to the College of Law. But the other two campuses should think about changing their names. Maybe UNO could become Omaha U. again. Maybe UNK could became Nebraska State, or something. -44 While talking to rela tives in Ohio, I mentioned going to UNL. They asked me what I was doing in Las Vegas. -tt - But until then, I willproudly attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. And if no change is ever made, I suppose I’ll live. At NU, UNL, Lin coln.... Cyrus ’ career helped by mysterious voice . Accoramg to an Associatea Kress story, Billy Ray Cyrus — whose de but album “Some Gave All” sold more than 7 million copies — got a jump start in his career by a still, small voice he heard while attending a Neil Diamond concert 11 years ago. “Neil Diamond was saying how if you believe in yourself, and believe in your dreams, then you will have ev erything you want,” the story quoted Cyrus from a recent TV Guide inter view. “Just that second, my voice said to me, ‘There’s your answer. Use your music to do something positive.’ And I knew right then that this was my calling.” m me ume ^.yrus was a zu-year old aspiring ballplayer who had never sung professionally. Today he’s among the brightest stars of country music. As unlikely as all this seems, it’s undeniable that Cyrus got, and is get ting, “everything he wants.” But the question remains: Who told Cyrus to do it? Neil Diamond? God? Just who is responsible for Billy Ray’s success? That question may remain forever unanswered as Diamond was unavail able for comment at press time. And God put this reporter on hold for what seemed like an eternity. — Mark Baldridge Cheerleaders strut their stuff at UPC festival A fashion show in the union?
