Advisers discuss

Students appointed to the Parking
Advisory Committee will now offi
cially serve one-year terms.
Committee members approved
one-year terms by a 5-to-4 vote at
their monthly meeting Thursday.
The presidentof the Association of
Students of the University of Nebraska
appoints students to the committee.
Previously they have served only one
year terms, even though the parking
bylaws read that students are required
to serve two-year terms.
The bylaws were changed to match
terms served by other students repre
. senting ASUN.

Committee chairman Tom John
son said students had the option of
running for a second term and encour
aged student members to do so.
“I think we as a committee can do
a lot to keep the student on,” he said.
Four students serve on the board.
Three of the members are undergradu
ates appointed by AS UN. One gradu
ate teaching or research assistant also
serves on the committee. That mem
ber is appointed by the dean of the
Graduate College with input from the
AS UN president and the Graduate
Student Association.
At Thursday’s meeting, the com
mittee alsodiscussed upcoming park
ing changes.
Beginning Jan. 4, 1993, all state
and federal cars will be assigned to
one lot on East Campus, which will
make more parking available for stu
dents, faculty and staff.
Sewer construction on 14th Street
that was to begin Dec. 7 was post
poned until semester break. It now
will begin Jan. 4 and should be com
pleted without closing 14th Street.
