ballad about the highs and lows of Hi
Five’s career and gives thanks to the
band’s fans for its-success.
Hi-Fi ve kicks in the funk on “Mary
Mary,” which picks up the tempo of
the LP.
“Let’s Get It Started,” and “Video
Girl,”are also funky, up-tempo tunes
that are of the New Jack/R. Kelly
persuasion. These songs are further
enhanced by the fluid baritone raps of
group newcomer Treston Irby of New
York, who replaced Toriano Easley'
shortly after Hi-Five released its first
l-*- -:
LP.
This disc ends on the smooth tip
with the soulful and seductive up
tempo ballad, “Whenever You Say.”
One of the few drawbacks of this
LP is that it is too short. “Keep; It
Goin’ On” only has nine songs, which
leaves the listener wanting more.
Hi-Five also seems to be stuck in
the rut of singing a lot of ballads
aimed toward females, rather than
appealing to a broader audience.
Despite the shortcomings, the LP
is impressive and shows Hi-Five has
grown into a group that can be en
joyed by more than just the teen-age
set.
