Gift ideas plentiful for UNL May graduates Cheap presents available By Sean Green Senior Reporter Graduation means diplomas, robes, parties and, of course, loot, loot, loot. The family members and friends of this year’s graduating class are running out of time to buy perfect gifts for their graduates. Selecting gifts can be difficult because in many cases, graduates don’t seem to need much — besides a job, of course. Most college graduates don’t need school supplies, the mainstay of high school gradu ation gift-giving. Few relatives and friends are willing or able to fork over the kind of money needed to buy things a college graduate really could use. And shoppers who fit the category of “Well, he loaned me his car once, and 1 really should buy him gift," probably are not willing to buy the graduate gifts such as a car, a house or a trip to Europe. However, if you are shopping for a soon to-be graduate, don’t despair. Rowlena Young, manager of Ben Si mon’s Gift Shop in Lincoln, said there were several practical and inexpensive gift ideas for graduates’ friends and relatives who don’t want to pay a fortune. Young said some traditional gift ideas included book ends, picture frames, jewelry boxes, paper weights and letter openers. She said these items were usually more popular for high school graduates who were going away from home for the first time, but shoppers for college graduates also purchased them.
