Hytrek Continued from Page 7 “Ii look me a couple games,’ he said. “Bui now 1 jusi love this court. “It feels good.” Woolridgc isn't the only one who can’t wait ilo be on the court next season. A smiling Nee and assistant coach Lynn Mitchcm were among the crowd of people wailing to congratulate Woolridgc after the game. - And smile they should, because Woolridgc could be an important factor in the success of next year’s team, given his ability to handle the ball. One of the Huskcrs’ weaknesses this season has been a lack of depth at point guard. Jamar Johnson has handled the position well, but w hen he leaves the game, Nebraska is without a true point guard. This has increased the possibility of turnovers. Next season, Johnson and Woolridgc could provide a good one two punch al that position. Woolridge has proved his ability to do the job. He showed he could run a team and distribute the ball. It’s not unreasonable to say that Woolridge could have a sizable im pact on Nebraska’s program next year, but one must make sure expectations don’lget loo high. Aftcrall, hcwillbc just a freshman next year and the Big Eight isn’t exactly the easiest confer ence in which to make a large impact as a freshman. But, judging from how Woolridge handled the swarming media after Saturday’s game, he realizes thata lot is expected of him. He answered questions and signed autographs calmly and smoothly, which is exactly how he looks while playing. If he keeps it up next year and beyond, Husker fans won't behave calmly and smoothly. They’ll be screaming and going nuts over another Nebraska victory. Hjlrck is a senior news-editorial major and the Daily Nebraskan sports editor. The Comhuskcrs beat Indiana Slate 5- 2 on Sunday to salvage an 0-2 start and to help Nebraska earn a seventh place finish in the tournament. The Huskcrs lost 6-0 to No. 21 San Diego on Friday, and followed that effort with a 5-2 loss to Big Eight rival Iowa State on Saturday before rebounding for their win Sunday against the Sycamores. Nebraska Coach Kerry' McDermott said he was pleased to get the victory on Sunday and leave California on a positive note. "It would'vc been nice to go 2-1 in the tournament, but in the long run it was nice to win on Sunday and get some confidence,’’ McDermott said. After being blanked by San Diego, Nebraska managed singles victories from No. 2 player Karl Falkland 6-3, 7-6 and by No. 6Christopher Nielsen 6- 4,6-4 against the Cyclones. McDermott said he hoped his team would remember the loss against Iowa Stale when the two teams met again in conference play in April. "I’d rather have lost to them out there than in Big Eight play," McDcr mou said. "Hopefully, it will make our guys hungry for them next lime around." Sunday's victory evened out the Huskers record at 3-3, with all three wins coming against regional foes from the Missouri Valley Conference. Nebraska beat MVC opponents Creighton and Southwest Missouri Slate earlier in the year. Falkland and Nielsen were again victorious Sunday, as they won 6-2, 6-1 and 7-6,6-1, respectively. Other singles winners against In diana Slate came from No. 3 player Mike Garcia 6-1,3-6,7-6, anti by No. 4 Andy Davis 7-6,6-3. Gaicia anti Davis capped the Husker victory with a 6-0,6-3 win al No. 2 doubles. McDermott said Ihc tourney helped the Huskers do something they have n’t been doing all season: play to gether as a team. “We lost as a team, but when we n won it was a total team effort," McDermott said. “We’re finally start ing lo come together as a team." Davis said he agreed with his coach. “After losing lo San Diego so had and struggling against Iowa State, it looked really good how we got be hind each other to win as a team against Indiana State." Davis said. Hunt Continued from Page 7 had lo kick them out.'’ The bar’s regular customers also enjoy the fiasco. Hunt said. “(The regulars) wouldn't leave and miss all this clowning around that is going on,” She said. “They really gel into it. “The regulars love it. Who else would he cra/.y enough to light all this traffic?” Hunt said. Doug Duren and Tom Manley where cra/y enough to fight the traf fic all the way from Omaha to cheer for Nebraska, which lost to Okla homa 107-85 on Friday. Duren, who works for an insur ance company in Omaha, said tickets were hard to come by. “Wc tried to get in ihc tournament, but wc couldn't find any tickets," Duren said. "We’redisappointed, but we’ve had a good lime." Manley, a communications major at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, said he thought tickets to Sunday’s final between Kansas and Oklahoma Slate would be easy to gel. “I’m sure wc will gel tickets for tomorrow,” he said Saturday. “This is not a vacation, it is a quest." i I Manley and Duron said they spent their time watching the games on the big screen television and drinking beer in the Genes see Inn. “I bet it’s more fun in here than it is in Kemper,” Duren said. The two Husker Tans planned this trip after the 1991 Big Eight Tourna ment, Manley said. "Last year we came down and thought Nebraska didn’t have a chance but they got to the finals. And we didn’t have trouble getting tickets,’ he said. "This year, we thought foi j sure we would gel in for the games. “Next year we will be belter or gani/cd,” Manley said.
