and around. Il is very original and
doesn’t gel old to listen to.
"This Mystic Morning’’ is where
Melomania begins to live up to its
name. A very melodic bass holds the
song together as the rest of the music
weaves in and out with a sleepy
Hawaiian twang. The relaxing lyrics
combined wilh the rhythm of the softly
tapped snare drum seriously will pul
you loslccp if you give them achancc.
Bassman sounds laid back on all
the songs, but at limes it seems as if he
tries lex) hard to sound that way. A
few of his lines arc slurred, but it
doesn’t detract from the total compo
sition whatsoever.
The mystic intro to “Arc You For
Real” makes one wonder if the song
will come out of the clouds as fast or
slow, but it becomes clear that Mclo
mania doesn’t want to be compared
tothc likes of the Charlatans LidC. of
Ned's Atomic Dustbin. So of course
the song is slower.
The only way actually to describe
the sound of Mclomania would be a
slowed-dow n version of Blur, with an
extremely mellow lead singer.
"Rise," the final song on the LP, is
a perfect representation of the al
bum’s sound. The instrumentation,
with its flighty guitar and its experi
menting organ, sounds frighteningly
familiar. It sounds like “The End” by
the Doors. Whether intentional or not,
it pays tribute to the legendary band
and ends “The Darksidc” in grand
style.
Mclomania has its own sound, and
has created a brilliant LP, but Mclo
mania isn’t for everyone. The sound
may be too non-conformist for some
and not upbeat enough for others. But
indeed, for Mclomania fans, it is right
where it should be.

sort of re-invent the wheel.
“There’s so much great music that
is untested and unplayed,” Talc said.
“The Blaze is one of 25 stations
throughout the United States that is
taking this new tack as a rebirth of
great days.
“We’re capturing some of the same
excitement that happened in the early
’70s,” Baptiste said.
After only 10 days, Talc said he
saw a link between the audience and
the radio station.
“It’s very gratifying to sec this,”
he said as he relaxed and leaned back
in his chair.
“What wc think we’re doing,” Tate
said, “is perhaps awakening a gene in
the children of the ’60s.”
