Opener Continued from Page 10 pointer. The two teams then traded baskets until Nebraska led 74-72 with 2:20 left. The Huskcrs then put away the Buffaloes as Michael Hughes hit a twisting layup and Johnson hit a jumper from the frec-throw line and Colo rado couldn’t rally for the win as Nebraska made its free throws down the stretch. The Huskcrs hit 16 of 21 free throws for the game and the 76-percent per formance was their best of the season. Hughes said the road trip turned out to be a pleasant one and the team never gave up. “I enjoyed that game,” Hughes said. “We kept confidence. After someone made a mistake, the whole team was there to pump him right back up. We never got down.” Although Colorado folded under Nebraska’s 10-2 run in the final min utes, Harrington was not upset with his team’s effort. “I thought we played a good bas ketball game for a young team,” he said. “We had a chance to win the game. We just didn’t score in the - second half. “That’s what it came down to.” Nebraska.42 42 — 84 At Colorado .. .46 28 — 74 Nebraska — Owens 3-72-28, Piatkow ski 8-15 1-2 20, Chandler 5-8 1-2 11, .
