This weekend in the Temple Build
ing, Theatrix presents “Broken
Boughs,” directed by Layne Ehlers.
“Boughs” is a single production of
two one-act plays: “27 Wagohs Full
of Cotton,” written by Tennessee
Williams and “Waiting on the Rocket,”
written by K. Scott Kolb, a University
of Nebraska-Lincoln student.
“Wagons” is a dark play about
crazy^mean Southern hicks, a sort of
“Green Acres” gone to hell. It’s a
show with everything: sex, violence
and violent sex.
Williams fans already will know
the story of rough men and delicate,
fainting women. Actually, the entire
cast of “Wagons” is comprised of two
men and one woman.
blind urge to live.
The two talk about their lives in a
raw language, and the stories they tell
are disturbing and vivid, offering a
glimpse of life on the “wild side” of
drug use, prostitution and violence.
Kolb has a real feel for language,
for bringing alive the way people talk
and the things they talk about. In the
future, perhaps he will hone that skill
even closer. At times his characters
drift a little. But even that drift is
worth watching.
“Rocket” is entered in the Ameri
can College Theatre Festival. Plans
were in effect for it to be critiqued by
an emissary of that festival this eve
ning.
“Broken Boughs” will be running
tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. and
Sunday Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. Admission is
S2 at the door.

The Women of Phi Beta Chi
Two men play out an economic
power struggle with a woman as
counter, like poker chips. The play
makes a point about the historical
role of women as chattel.
“Wagons” is depressing, of course.
If it weren’t, it wouldn’t be Tennes
see Williams. This particular produc

On the other hand, “Waiting on
the Rocket” makes the whole evening
worth while.
Set in a crypt in Hollywood, the
play looks at a n ight in the 1 i ves of two
teenagers, Daria (Angie Holdsworth)
and Adrian (Patrick Wilkins). They
are death-punk sociopaths with a will
to die. Fortunately, they also have a
