Injuries Continued from Page 8 have gotten hurt instead, and that wouldn’t have been good either. Wilhite said he won’t think about when he might play again, but in stead will remain positive and concentrate on rehabilitating the knee after surgery next Tuesday. Recovery is expected to take at least four to five months. “If it was going to happen, it was going to happen,” he said. “I’m really not thinking about next year. I’m thinking about surgery and rehab and then next year. If I don’t rehab it to where it’s 100 percent, it’s only going to give again.” With the absence of Wilhite, Osborne said sophomore John Reece would switch from safety to cor nerback and the Huskers would have to rely on young players to perform. Osborne said it is really hard to find players who could do what Wilhite had been able to do at comerback, especially with the type of man-to-man defense the Husk ers play. He said the coaches felt fairly secure with Nebraska’s de fensive backficld a week ago, but now were not so sure. Wilhite also said he expected the players to do well despite inex perience. “Those guys know what they have to do, and I’m quite sure they are going to do it,” he said. “I talked to the coaches, and I told them I’m going to try and help the young guys to just stay loose and nolgct uptight about the situation.” Belgians Continued from Page 8 points. Jennings said she won’t be able to do that every night for the Huskers to be successful. “I’m just concentrating on what it takes to win,” she said. “I think we are going to have to get some more scor ing from other people because I think championship teams usually have a more balanced attack.” Nebraska came out in the second half starting where they left off, with Jennings scoring on a fast break lay up. But the Belgians held tough for the first part of the half, several times reducing the Huskers lead to nine points. With the score 57-48. Nebraska exploded, running off 12 straight, points. The closest Belgium got after that was 14 points down as the Huskers rolled to victory. Nebraska will take on Athletes in Action tonight at 7:05 at the Bob Dcvancy Sports Center. The all-star team is considered to be the NBA equivalent for women’s basketball and will feature former two-time All American Stanford star Jennifer Azzi. Azzi was an intrical part of the Cardi nal national championship team and a high school idol of Yedsena’s. Yedsena said she is looking for ward to playing against her hero. “It’s going to be exciting because she was someone I looked up to,” she said. “She is kind of an inspiration. I would like to play a few scries against her because I think it will be a good test for me to sec where I stand.” Beck Continued from Page 1 up of former collegiate players. The team is coached by Marcia Burton and plays 22 games against universi ties all over the country. The team has won seven of its first nine games this fall, losing to Ohio State and Illinois. “The game will extend us men tally,” Beck said. “We need to play a lot smarter and concentrate on win ning.” Beck said her team has to have belter offensive flow and more help defensively with less fouls. Nebraska did play good enough defense to limit Belgium to 46 shots compared to 77 shots for the Huskcrs. “I think the score is indicative of a good defensive effort,” Beck said. “We tried to do some good things, but we need more continuity.” The Nebraska women’s team had a 17-11 overall record last year, fin ishing in a tie for second in the Big Eight with an 8-6 league mark. The team returns three starters and cighl letterwinners from a year ago. Bowls Continued from Page 8 bowls. One that wc don’t even want to be in.” At least by playing in the Gator or Hall of Fame bowls the New Year’s Day streak would slay intact. That way, all Nebraska fans could watch their team win a bowl game in the early afternoon, then spend the rest of the day wailing to watch Colo rado get demolished in the Orange Bowl. f .
