Arbor Moon Continued from Page 8 sponsible for their surroundings and lives.” Opening the bookstore in The Gathering Place seemed appropri ate since the staff and volunteers foster a growing attitude by offer ing meals and conversation to those in need. The bookstore is open limited hours because Martin is unavail able to staff it at all times. Martin does have eight volunteers who hel p keep the store open when she is not available. Martin said she | hopes to work something out soon with The Gathering Place to enable the store to remain open more hours during the day. Business has been "horrible with the weather we’ve been having,” Martin said. The women’s commu nity in Lincoln has been supportive in talk, but not necessarily in busi ness, she said. But as more people learn about the bookstore, Martin said, she hopes they will come in. She trav els to conferences to sell her books and makes most oyier livelihood through this business. Through traveling, she keeps up to date on new books that are available and what people are interested in read ing. Martin has more than 500 titles, including new and used books. She offers a wide selection of books to choose from, including environ mental, gay/lesbian, recovery, self help, domestic violence, multicul tural issues and other issues con cerning women. Martin also carries calendars, jewelry — some by local women artists — and music. She encour ages people to bring in their used books.
