Top players to compete in tourney Two of Nebraska’s top men’s tennis players will be competing in the Rolex Tournament in Lafay ette, La., this weekend against some of the nation’s best players. Joseph Rahme and Karl Falkland will be among 64 players compet ing in the tournament being hosted by Southwest Louisiana State Uni versity. “It will give Joseph and Karl the chance to play tougher competi tion,” Nebraska Coach Kerry McDermott said. “Every match will be tough. It will be sort of like playing in a scaled-down NCAA toumey.” Rahme, the Comhuskers’ top singles and doubles player, said he wants to gain some recognition this weekend. “I want to try to get a big win to my name,” Rahme said. “I’d like to take one of the tourney’s bigger players out and get my name rec ognized.” Rahme said he thinks it’s an honor to be playing in this week end’s tournament. “It’s like a privilege to be going down there to play .Rahme said. “It makes me feel like I’m one of the elite.” Rahme and Falkland will start play Friday. The two could com pete through Sunday, depending on how far they advance. — Jeff Singer -SPORTS BRIEFS Husker volleyball still in polls The Nebraska volleyball team remained eighth in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, and moved up to five spots to ninth in the latest NCAA National Committee Rat ings. The 13-3 Comhuskers also moved up one notch to seventh in the Volleyball Monthly poll. The AVCA and NCAA polls disagreed on the top-ranked team, with Stanford No. 1 in the AVCA poll and Pacific gamering the top spot according to the NCAA. Big Eight foe Colorado was No. 22 in tiie NCAA poll, the only team from the Big Eight to get any votes.
