The university also received $1.1 million in research funds and $1 mil lion for museum, library and fine arts funding, according to the press re lease. The rest of the funds were di vided among a variety of areas, Morin said. The market value of foundation assets, which determines how much funding is available to the university, reached a record $244.8 million in fiscal year 1991, Klein said. This value increasedby $28.2 million over fiscal year 1990. The foundation is a non-profit corporation created to supplement NU student and faculty support, academic programs and facilities. The founda tion achieves thisihrough donations and investments from alumni, friends, corporations and other foundations. According to the press release, gifts and investments to the NU Founda tion amounted to $39.3 million in Fiscal year 1991, the third highest total in the foundation’s history. This amount exceeded the expectations of the foundation, Klein said. “This year, we had no major do nor, yet without a major donor we were still able to reach $26.3 million in gifts alone,” she said. In fiscal year 1990, the NU Foun dation received a record $46.4 mil lion in gifts and investments, partly due to $6 million donated by the Lied Foundation. Glass and paper pose logistical problems because they are heavy and hard to store and sort, he said. Also, it is harder to justify the costs of recy cling paper because there is little profit. Perkins Loan checks to be distributed From Staff Reports__ The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will distribute fall semester Perkins Loan checks to day through Wednesday in the ball room of the Nebraska Union. Checks not picked up during these three days will be canceled. Students must bring their student IDs to receive the checks.
