u-r Robin Trimarchl/DN Guns N’ Roses fans pack Twisters Music and Gifts, 6105 “O” St., for the Midnight Madhouse Listening Party. Twisters hosts party for new release By Robert Richardson Senior Reporter The biggest party in Lincoln on Monday beer wasn’t served. The biggest party was at Twisters Music and Gifts, 6105 O St., and the party favor was a pair of new releases “Use Your Illusion I” and “Use Your Illu sion II,” the newest LPs from the rock band Guns N’ Roses were the reason for the hoopla, fondly called the “Guns N’ Roses Midnight Madness Listening Party.” With the doors scheduled to open at 11:30 p.m. for a midnight release (the earliest pos sible release allowed by the record company) of the albums, scores of people waited outside to be one of the first in Lincoln to purchase I 1 them. With more than 300 excited customers jammed into Twisters, midnight was a long time coming. But lines of fans clutching T shirts and new music counted down the last 10 seconds until midnight with a fired-up air that would have made GN’R frontman Axl Rose proud. The cash registers began ringing and didn’t stop for more than an hour. Twisters’ employee Kyle Tonniges said he was happy to see the money roll in, but said that since Twisters was selling the CD’s and cassettes below cost, this could be considered a promotion. “It’s sort of a public relations thing because we’re selling it as soon as we could,” Tonniges said. Sam seeks the help of crackpot clairvoy ant Whoopi Goldberg, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this performance. “Ghost” also was nominated for Best Pic ture at the Oscars and the Golden Globe Awards. There is light at the end of the tunnel, as the fall movie season promises to lift video rentals. October and November will include releases of the biggest hits of last spring and summer. October boasts the release of 199l’s Oscar nominated “The Field” and “The Godfather III.” It also features two films sure to be nomi nees next year, “Silence Of The Lambs,” with Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, and Albert Brooks’ “Defending Your Life.” “Madonna: Truth Or Dare” will arrive Oct. 9. Look for “City Slickers” and “Terminator 2” to blast to home video before Christmas. Blue Continued from Page 9 startling “Swagger,” they are nothing new to England. The five albums recorded since 1984 mark the progression of the Blue Aeroplanes through a scenic pop panorama. Much of the band’s originality lies in its state of constant change. “Beatsongs” com bines the sprightly spirit of the Stone Roses with the pure happiness of the Byrds, with a necessary pinch of Van Morrison thrown in for good measure. So why all the different styles? “I get bored,” Bruschini explains. “With many of my albums, maybe I’ll just play one side. I love vinyl. It’s warmer and more pleas ant. I want my music bigger.” And big they are. “Beatsongs” with its minimum of three guitars and fat recording, -- i - manage to be enormous. “We wanted to record the whole thing live. The La’s keep going on about ‘We want the old sound ...’ They should go to L.A.,” Bruschini said. They should stop whining, he said. The secret behind the Blue Aeroplanes is the simplicity of the pop song and the soul behind it. “I think all good pop songs should show real emotions — a good pop song always has that,” Bruschini said. The cover of Paul Simon’s “The Boy In The Bubble,” carries the soul of both Simon and the Blue Aeroplanes. Ironically, vocalist/lyricist Gerard Langley was originally laughed at for suggesting it. “We laughed at him at first. But it works. The (song) (ended itself to make a guitar riff,” Bruschini said. The Blue Aeroplanes love what they’re doing. Flatter your figure with Stirrups Simon's carries a copius collection of stirrup pants in distinctively different styles and colors as low as $10.99.
