I-SPORTS BRIEFS NU gymnastics lands blue-chip recruits The Nebraska men’s gymnas tics team has signed Richard Grace of Millard South and Rick Kieffer of Austin, Texas, to letters-of-in tent. According to Nebraska coach Francis Allen, Grace and Kieffer are half of the nation ’ s top recruits. “In my opinion there are four blue-chip, bona fide Olympic-cali ber gymnasts coming out of high school this year,” Allen said in a press release, “and we’ve got two of them.” The Huskers will lose seniors Brad Bryan and Ted Dimas from this year’s team. Tough contests scheduled for tonight The opening bell for Lincoln’s first Toughman and Toughwoman contests is scheduled to ring to night at 8 p.m. at Pershing Audito num. Tonight's winners will fight again Saturday. Reserved tickets cost $12.50 and general admission is $10. Domeier Continued from Page 13 I don’t know if the NCAA will lower the basket for the women’s game, but I think 9-2 baskets, volley ball-sized basketballs and short courts will stick around for casual players. Munchkinball will be to basketball what softball is to baseball. • Can Tom Haase ever be judged fairly? Some fans are saying Haase should start at quarterback for Nebraska next year. The reason given by many: “He is the next Gerry Gdowski.” That is racist. Haase is the next Gdowski only in that he is white, he is from Nebraska and he has spent most of his career as a reserve. Mostly, he is white. The quarterback closest to Gdow ski with his intelligence, leadership, athletic ability and mediocre arm is the black Louisiana native, Mickey Joseph. And no one spent last year saying, “Joseph is the next Gerry Gdowski.” On the other hand, to say that Haase’s supporters only like him because he is while slights his ability and accomplishments. He did play well in the Citrus Bowl, and he has worked his way to the top of the spring depth chart. Coach Tom Osborne is in charge of the depth chart, and he will be the one who has tp judge Haase fairly. Certainly he will. Then Osborne will be the one who is judged unfairly. Domeier Is a senior news-editorial major and the Daily Nebraskan sports editor. Scrimmage Continued from Page 13 ran for 23 and nine yards and snuck in for the score. He finished with 29 yards rushing on six carries. After four more halted drives, Grant, who finished with 70 yards on four of 10 passing attempts, hit tight end Johnny Mitchell on a 53-yard touch down pass. Fittingly for the defense, the last score came when free safety Jamie Weyers picked up a fumble and scam pered to the end zone. “(The defense) played with pretty good intensity,” Osborne said. “The offense generally had the better of it last Saturday, but today I4d say the defense played pretty well.” — Todd Cooper 3 Bicycles For Sale 1990 Trek 1200,4 month old racing bike. $425 obc.477 7854, leave message. 27" Raleigh Olympian 12-speed, $150.435-1263. 59 cm Torpado, Campy, Columbus. 435-2322, ask for Bob Or 423-9441, Paul. 84 Bianchi San Remo, good shape, 18 spd., $300 obo.
