For those classes, the final project is the final and its due date is scheduled for finals week. Doug Oxley, a member of the Dead Week policy committee from 1988-89, agreed that the policy should be changed. He said that ASUN tried to get the week changed in the spring of 1989, but the amendment failed when it reached the Faculty Senate. Committee members were not aware that policy changes were going to be discussed the day that the Senate voted on them, so members were not at the meeting to promote a revision, Oxley said The appeal system can work if people use it, Mohling said. If the problem still exists after Mohling contacts the professor, the matter is taken to the ombudsman who tries to solve the problem. After this step, the matter can go to the department chair or even the vice chancellor for academic af fairs. Many students are afraid of us ing the system, Mohling said. She often gets complaints from students who think they have encountered a violation of policy, but are afraid -u — A lot of students think you can’t have a quiz during the week. How ever, a quiz doesn’t take up a lot of a stu dent’s time.
