Coach: OU better than record shows By Todd Cooper Staff Reporter Nebraska fans may see three bowl games this year, according to defen sive backficld coach George Darling ton and graduate assistant coach Turner Gill. The first bowl matchup will be Nov. 23 against Oklahoma, Gill said. “This is going to be their bowl game,” said Gill, who scouted the Sooncrs’ game against Kansas State on Saturday. “If they beat Nebraska, they know that they’ve done things well.” Darlington said Oklahoma’s 7-3 record is deceiving. “Thcrc’sno way Oklahoma should have lost three ball games,” Darling ton told those attending Monday’s Extra Point Club luncheon. “They certainly should not have lost to Texas. They probably should not have lost to CU (Colorado) and they certainly shouldn’t have lost to Iowa State. “I hope whatever they did to screw those three games up, they still know how to do in a couple of weeks.” Questions from those attending the luncheon then turned to the Corn huskers’ bowl plans. “We think we’re going to a bow l,” Darlington said. “‘The Daily Nebras kan doesn’t think we’re going to a bowl.” An article in Monday’s Daily Nebraskan quoted Citrus Bowl offi cial Jerry Banks as saying the selec tion committee also was considering Penn State, Florida State and Michi gan, should the Huskers lose to Okla homa and should those teams still be available. Those teams are already verbally commuted to other bowls, though official invitations can’t be extended until Nov. 24. Darlington joked that formal ex tensions from the Fiesta Bowl might include Lincoln as the site. Fiesta Bowl officials were considering find ing a new home for the game, w hich currently is held in Tempo, Ariz., if any invited teams protested Arizona's rejection of a state holiday that would honor Marlin Luther King Jr. “I’d like to mention the Fiesta Bowl is going 10 be moved to Lincoln,” Darlington said, drawing laughs from the club members. “Tickets arc going to be $30 apiece, plus car muffs.” Bowl president: Game to stay in Tempe The Associated Press During a marathon Sunday ses sion, Fiesta Bowl president Larry Gunning announced that the game would remain at Arizona State Uni versity’s Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, a Phoenix suburb.
