    Trouble Tribe delivers
strong sounds on debut

Trouble Tribe
“Trouble Tribe”
Chrysalis Records
Throw a cup of rock and a dash
of blues into a heavy metal blender
and out oozes Trouble Tribe, a
New York band consisting of Jimmy
Driscoll, Stephen Durrell, Eric
Klaastad, and Adam Wacht.
Their self-titled debut album has
a unique and satisfying style to it
— Trouble Tribe utilizes a variety
of rock and blues attacks, ballads
and two instrumentals.
The first song, entitled “Tat
too,” (which might explain the
album cover) is a hard rockin’ tune
that drives the blues away and gets
down and dirty. Using a riff that
sounds strangely similar to KISS’
“Rise to it,” Trouble Tribe cranks
out a standard head banger onslaught
The lyrics from “Tattoo” are
pretty self-explanatory.
“‘Cause all you left me was a
souvenir I got tired of/I say you,
you’re like a tattoo/I can’t get you
out from under my skin/no matter
what I do.”
Another Trouble Tribe tune that
has a curious twist to it is “Tribal
Beast.’ The song begins with ex
citing and adventurous sounds such
as exotic birds and the sound of
waterfalls plunging onto rocks. After
vocalist Jimmy Driscoll emanates
the feeling of sweating in a steamy
wet jungle, Stephen Durrcll jumps
in with a primal drum beat.
“Tribal Beast” seems to be just an
experiment of sounds from the
jungle. Although “Tribal Beast” is
just more than a minute long, this
eerie, twisted song shows a lot of
creativity and excitement. “Red
Light Zone” is a speedy song with
a fast-paced guitar solo at the be
ginning. The song deals with the
band’s New York street attitude as
shown in the song’s lyrics.
“This is our town/this is our
playground/mect the bad boys/
we’ve got some new toys for you/
in the city.”
Even though Trouble Tribe is
new to the music scene, they’ve
got that New York attitude, some
what like KISS, that will make
them go far.
The musical style isn’t at all
new, but there is a lot of strength
throughout the album. The songs
arc all solid and seem to piece
together into a great album to lis
ten to, so check it out.
Asimov
Continued from Page 12
turn protects the Earth and a number
of colonies from impending disaster.
More than the future, Asimov is
writing about people in “Nemesis,”
and is at his best when describing the
confrontation between several groups
uho all hope to coloni/e the Earih
iike planet Erythro.
None of them see their original
plans fulfilled, but the final outcome
meets the needs of each group of
humans and the planet as well.
For all his clear description of life
and travel in space, Asimov’s best
moments most often involve intimate
moments shared by pairs of his char
acters.
Struggles between Marlene and
her mother, wistful meetings of aging
lovers, the awkward reunion of Mar
lene with her father, whom she has
not seen since infancy: these arc the
telling moments of human lives,
whether set in the present or in the
future.
It is Asimov’s ability to present
fully and tragically human characters
in a futuristic setting which most
contributes to his reputation as an
enduring science fiction writer.
