Osborne said he did not have de tails about the accident, but said that he didn’t think Tumer was hurt badly. “I don’t think he’s banged up real bad,” Osborne said. Tight end William Washington practiced for a while, and Osborne said he was “running a little better” than he had been. He said Washing ton might be ready to play some in Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State. A case of the flu held offensive tackle Tom Punt out of practice, Osborne said. He said Punt should be back to practice today. Erik Wiegcrt, another offensive tackle, missed practice with a groin injury. Osborne said he was not sure if Wiegcrt would practice today. I-back Scott Baldwin is question able for Saturday’s game because of sore ribs, Osborne said. Fahleson/Daily Nebraskan George Achola (4) and Paul Wlghtman (49) force a fumble from Missouri’s Jason Oliver during a kickoff return. Mis souri recovered the fumble. u Diving (Men’s and Women’s) — The team returned from Minnea polis Sunday where it commuted to get six hours of platform diving experience. Platform diving is an NCAA event, but a 900-milc trip to Minneapolis is the nearest the Husker team can go to get experi ence and overcome the fear in that event, Coach Jim Hocking said... As result team members’ upper bodies were sore at Monday’s prac tice from the weekend trip, Hock ing said. There is a huge difference between the impact of diving from a 10-meter platform and thrcc-meter springboard, he said... The team’s first competition is the U.S.S. Great Pumpkin Class, Oct. 27 to 28 at the Bob Dcvaney Sports Center pool. Women’s Swimming — Coach Ray Huppcrt said the team looked good considering it was the first practice after a weekend layoff... Today’s workout will be fatiguing, he said. He will put the (cam through a workout that includes a lot of sprints. It will be so fatiguing that it requires a 48-hour recovery time, he said... Some team members arc bothered with sore shoulders. . . Beth Smith never practiced, while Lcanc Maruk had a moderate work out. Two others — Laurel Hill (shoulder) and Kris Haws (knee) are working their way up to tougher workouts following injuries, Hup pcrt said... The team’s Intrasquad meet that was to be held this week end was cancelled, and it also backed out of the Pumpkin Classic. The team’s first meet now is Nov. 9 at Wyoming. JNU s Joseph named Big Eight Offensive Player of the Week From Staff Reports For the second lime this season, Nebraska junior quarterback Mickey Joseph on Monday was named the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Week. Joseph, who rushed for four touch downs and passed for another as the Comhuskcrs downed Missouri 69-21 Saturday, was a unanimous selection. He directed the Huskcrs’ offense to a season-high 622 total yards, includ ing 500 yards rushing. Joseph had 95 yards rushing on nine carries and 65 yards passing, completing 4 of 8 attempts. The 5-foot-11-inch quarterback from Marrero, La., also won the award following the Huskers 56-0 win over Minnesota. Oklahoma junior linebacker Joe Bowden, who had 14 tackles, includ ing eight unassisted stops in the Soon ers 14-13 loss to Texas, was named the defensive player of the week. Joseph Continued from Page 7 “So 1 wanted to get in there and get back to my college days.” The drive ended when Joseph tried to force a touchdown pass and instead threw an interception, one Osborne said will be hard to forget since Jo seph could have run the ball. “1 think he was trying to do some thing spectacular,”Osborne said. "He still needs to play within the system a little bit.” When Joseph went to the side lines,Osbornecxpressed his displeas ure with the ad libs. "We’ve settled that,” Osborne said. “I don’t think he’ll do that again.” Joseph returned for one more pos session and led the Huskers to a touch down, the seventh in his nine offen sive series. The drive ended on an option that also could have a coach saying, “Good, but.. While Joseph was faking the hand off to fullback Lance Lewis, a Mis souri defender busted through and hit Lewis’ arm. Lcwisgrabbcd the ball to make sure no one fumbled Joseph wanted it back. “I was telling him, ‘Let go!’” Jo seph said. “Finally I pulled it out of there.” He immediately pitched it to I back Derek Brown. The Tiger de fenders, lulled by the slow-develop ing play, couldn’t catch Brown as he danced 23-yards down the sideline into the end /one. Joseph said he should have let Lewis keep the ball instead of risking a turnover. File that away for future reference. NU gets a touchdown. But Joseph, who has nine touch downs for the season and moved into Nebraska’s scoring top 50 with his 13th career score, repented of his rash decisions, saying he beat the odds. “It might work one out of 10 times, < but it worked loday,” he said. 4 In true, mature, collegiate style, 1 Joseph deferred to the experienced- ^ based recommendations of Osborne. j “Coach has been around a long 1 lime, so he knows what he’s doing,” si Joseph said. 1 Kimble Continued from Page 7 ward for the 6-foot-5 guard. The film includes NBA stars Akeem Olajuwon and Maurice Checks, and former “Hill Sued Blues” cast member Michael Warren. In last season’s NCAA tournament, with the nation’s eyes on the Lions, Kimble shouldered the pressure. He said pressure remains, but not be cause of anyone else. “No matter how high people have expectations for me, mine are higher,” he said. “I want to be a quality player in this league. I just have to be pa tient.” Among Kimble’s teammates this year is Loy Vaught, part of the de fending 1989 national champion Michigan team that Loyola crushed 149-115 in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals. The two still laugh at how much the Lions ran that day, he said. Paul Westhcad, the coach at Loyola, has also moved to the pros as coach of the Denver Nuggets. “He deserves to be an NBA coach,” Kimble said. Although he is not “in LMU shape" yet, Kimble said he can't wait to play Denver at the run-and-game pace that Westhcad incorporates. Adjusting to the pros will be a challenge, Kimble said, but the pace won’t be. “The NBA is slower than it was at Loyola,” he said. “Noone in the world ran like LMU.”
