[Goat Continued from Page 10 had to finish their beers by 1 a.m. This left little lime to get the Goat lubed up.( “In Sydney, the bars are open all night,’ McLeod said between swal lows. and bassist Lachlan McLeod, who looked like a modem day Johnny Rotten, stumbled deliriously but never missed a note. Spasm and the Goat’s other guitar ist, Renastair E.J., commonly used simultaneous, screeching string bends over and over to instigate the songs’ insane nature. But never did they pass the mark of pleasant dissonance. Long Continued from Page 9 his friends and lovers. By the end of the movie, only two of the men and Lisa are left alive. “Can you believe that there was life before this, that there were days when we didn’t wake up and wonder il we were next,” one of the charac ters says. They dream of the day when a cure for AIDS is found, which leads to the film’s surreal final scene. Except for Lisa, all of the charac ters in the film are gay. But the people in the film are not shown as being New Yorkers or gays. They arc por trayed as being people that could live across the hall or on any member of - ....... | the audience’s street. The story is of normal people responding to a dis ease over which they have no control. This film is an inspiring story of courage. Each actor is excellent, but Davison, as David, and Lamos, as David’s lover, Sean, arc particularly good. As Sean suffers from the disease, the film shows how David cares for him and how David gives Sean the courage to let go of life. “Let go,” David keeps repealing, his voice crack ing, as Sean dies. “Don’t be afraid to just let go. I’ve got you, and I won’t let anything bad happen to you. Just let go.” Another skilled actor is Scott, as Willy. He is perhaps the most scared of the group, but he learns to face his fears about AIDS. And Cassidy, as Howard, is excellent. Howard is an actor on a soap - appropriately called “Other People” - and opens up new horizons in the soap world as he plays a gay character. I he Sheldon is to be commended for an excellent choice of films; they often choose films that no one else in Lincoln will touch. “Longtime Companion” and the Sheldon’s last film, “The Handmaid’s Talc,” are just two examples of nationally ac claimed films that have made their only Lincoln appearances at the thea ter. “Longtime Companion” is play ing at the Sheldon Film Theater, 12th and R streets. Screenings arc today through Saturday, Oct. 6 and Thurs day, Oct. 11 through Sunday,Oct. 14.
