Huskers beat Regis College; lose game to Colorado State NORTH PLATTE (AP) - Nebraska lost to Colorado State 6-1 and beat Regis College of Denver 10-0 to fin ish second at the three-day Kearney State Invitational softball tournament Sunday. The Comhuskers’ lone run against Colorado State came on a solo home run by Misti Guenther in the seventh inning. It was the Huskers’ second loss to Colorado State, losing 6-4 Saturday. Colorado State went 6-0, Nebraska 4 2. Nebraska’s other earlier games in the tournament included wins over Kearney State 17-2 and 14-4, and over Regis 17-0. NU baseball team ‘wins’ exhibitions Nebraska’s baseball team “won” two exhibition games against Neosho County Community College Sunday afternoon at Buck Beltzer Field. Comhusker coach John Sanders said he didn’t think there were offi cial results, though Nebraska assuredly scored more runs. “There was a rough score some where in there,” Sanders said. “I’m worried about improvement.” The games were the first of the fall season for Nebraska. Senior right fielder Shawn Buchanan had a day that included a two-run home run to right-center and a three-run double to left. Buchanan, one of the team’s offensive co-cap tains this spring, said the Huskers normally play intrasquad games in the fall. Exhibitions, he said, give the young players a chance to face other college competition and let the team play a common enemy. “These really help the team come together,” he said. Nebraska will play Iowa Western Community College in another exhi bition at 7 p.m. Thursday at Buck Beltzer Field. Oklahoma (2-0) rolled up 529 yards of offense — 450 on the ground -- and took advantage of every Pitt mistake. The Panthers (2-1) lost three fumbles and had two passes intercepted, re sulting in 31 Oklahoma points. The 52 points were the most given up by Pitt since a 55-10 loss to Penn State in 1971. Star tailback Blaise Bryant and quarterback Chris Peere were injured for Iowa State (1-1). Bryant, the fourth leading rusher in NCAA Division I last year with 1,516 yards, suffered a deep bruise in his right shoulder and had to leave in the second quarter with 69 yards. Notre Dame 28, Michigan 24 SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Rick Mirer, making his first college start, threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Jarrell with 1:40 left, capping a fourth-quarter rally that gave top ranked Notre Dame a 28-24 victory over No. 4 Michigan. Trailing 24-21, Notre Dame drove 76 yards in nine plays for the touch down that extended its home winning streak to 18 games. The score was set up by an 11-yard pass from Mirer to Raghib Ismail, who recovered from a bruised sternum in the first half. Notre Dame snuffed out Michi gan’s next drive when Reggie Brooks intercepted an Elvis Grbac pass on the Irish 40 with 1:21 remaining. Michigan got the ball back with 15 seconds left on its own 29, but Grbac was unable to connect on two des peration passes.
