Well-known comics celebrate Funny Bone’s first anniversary By John Payne Senior Reporter If an idleComhuskcr football team has got you at a loss for weekend entertainment, you might want to check out three hot young comics at the Funny Bone, 808 P St., in Lincoln’s Hay market. The Bone is celebrating its first anniversary this week with two nationally known funny men, and one of the area’s finest comedians. Los Angeles family man Rahn Ramey headlines the shows with an act that combines Cosby-like family anecdotes with his own manic deliv ery. Taking jabs at computer sales men, the Lincoln Municipal Airport and car-wax commercials that pose as talk shows, Ramey’s routine pulls no punches. Father knows best he ain’t, but his insight is hilariously m/ refreshing. Percy Crews II, from St. Louis, is a brash young comedian, to say the least. The bashful may want to take a seat in the back, as Crews recounts his days as a supermarket checker in uproarious detail. And speaking of rising talent, Lincoln’s busiest stand-up man, Mark Gross, opens for Crews and Ramey while serving as master of cerme onies. Those who have caught Gross’s act know what a slightly demented, thinking man’s comedian his is. Those of you who haven’t, do so this week end. You’ll be glad you did. The Funny Bone has two shows tonight and Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and one show Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door. Playhouse to hold auditions for World War II drama From Staff Reports The Lincoln Community Play house, with the support of the Ne braska Arts Council, has announced open auditions for Barbara Lcbow’s drama ‘‘A Shayna Maidel,” from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 16 and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 17, at the play house, 2500 S. 56lh St. Those who audition should be available for possible callbacks on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. “A Shayna Maidel” is a study of a Polish family tom apart by the Nazi rise to power and World War II. The play is set in 1946, and opens with the arrival of eldest sister Luisa in New York. She has been separated from her father and sister for nearly 20 years. The play explores the range of emotions of a family living apart, the ravages of war and the Holocaust and the strained relationship of two sis ters who have grown up in entirely different circumstances. Roles are available for four women and two men, aged 20 and over. All who audition should come prepared to read from the script. Scripts are available at the playhouse and may be checked out for a 24-hour period upon payment of a S3 deposit.
