Lisa Continued from Page 10 I loved walking through Greenwich Village on a Sunday afternoon to see the street vendors, comedians and musicians perform ing in Washington Square Park. I hated the fact that we had to be back to the Port Authority Bus Ter minal before sundown because the area wasn’t safe for women (or anyone else, for that.matter) after dark. 1 loved that I became subway lit erate. I hated feeling scared and later embarrassed just because I was the only minority on the train. I loved going to Central Park. My roommates and I would walk the winding pathways. We even caught Tracy Ullman in “The Tam ing of the Shrew.” I even ran in a 3 1/2-mile race for my company. I hated thinking of the woman jogger who was beaten and raped there in 1989. I loved going to St. Patrick’s Ca thedral on Sundays. Although I waver a bit on my religious beliefs, the pomp and glory of the cere mony is beautiful in itself. I hated being selective about who I sat next to in church -- fearing assault or robbery. I loved the South Street Seaport located on the southernmost tip of Manhattan. The poseur Wall Street interns always lined the walls and talked about themselves. At night the pier provided a wonderful view of the Brooklyn Bridge, and, if I squinted, a view of the Green Lady and her torch to the southwest. I hated the thought of going home at 11:30 on a Friday night just to catch the last bus to Jersey. I loved going across the George Washington Bridge. From Jersey (or “Joysee,” as the natives call it), the Bridge proves to be a wonder ful place to see Manhattan on clear days, which were few and far be tween. 1 hated mentally preparing my self for what was before me. I became a fatalist — realizing that it was more than a chance that I could be the victim of a brutal murder, rape or Dartman. I loved taking the Circle Line Tour, a ferry that circled 3 1/2 hours around Manhattan. 1 hated it when the tour guide took his 10-minute break as we glided past the projects and tene ments of Harlem. I loved just walking around, catch ing glimpses of Mi Hi Vanilli, Radio City Music Hall, and the Metropoli tan Museum of Art, to name a few. I hated stepping over the seem ingly endless nu mbers of homeless who lined the streets making slabs of pavement their home. I loved knowing I would never have to live that way. 1 hated the thought that I may never help the cause. □ Belly Dancing after the Game!
