Sports editor explains back-to-school issue Hold the phone. Don't dial and call in a complaint -- the Daily Ne braskan sports staff is aw are that ath letic events other than volleyball and football exist on campus, even though they are all that is show n in this sports edition. The Daily Nebraskan w ill preview and feature other events when they become timely. For instance, the men's and w omen's cross countrs teams will have their first meet Sept. 15. The softball team begins its fall, or exhi bition. season the same weekend. The football team reported for fall practice Aug. 10. the voiles ball team Aug. 12. Players and coaches for both teams were available for interviews and photo opportunities. Trying to preview every sport for the back-to-school issue would have risked missing a coach or athlete because he or she could not be reached. For simplicity and to prevent that risk, the sports editor's decision was to feature the volleyball and football teams for this section. Club sports wanting coverage should select an individual to be their team's representative to the Daily r^- --- . — Nebraskan. That individual should stop by the sports desk with a list of team members with names printed or typed and spelled correctly. The pictures featured on the cover, as well as most of the photos in this section, were taken by junior news ednorial major Michelk? Paulman. who spent hours developing reels upon reels of film. The stories were written by a mixture of reporters and editors: Matt Herek and Cindy Wostrel from the news desk, John Payne from the arts and entertainment desk and Todd Cooper, Chns Hopfenspcrger, David Moyer and Benji Greenberg from the sports desk. Also on the sports staff this fall are Paul Domeier. who along with Hopfen sperger w ill be a senior reporter. Cory Golden and John Adkisson join Coo per, Moyer and Greenberg as staff reporters. Last year, Nebraska won nine Big Eight Conference championships. This should be another good year forCom husker athletics. So enjoy, and wel come back. - Darr an Fowler, sports editor -i-■■-■■■■-= -"^1 Life's A Masquerade Fringe and Tassel has costumes, make-up and accessories for all your party needs.
