Boyle has practiced wood etching for ten years. ractory otters heritage, craft demonstrations By Chris Schneider Staff Reporter From old-fashioned doll-making to tales of Indian lore, a wide variety of heritage and craft demonstrations will be offered on Friday in the Candy Factory at 8lh and P streets. Anything can be expected, as people from around Nebraska bring their unique jobs and hobbies to Summer time Nebraska from 4 to 8 p.m. In fact, many of the demonstrators de scribed their fortes as “a lost art.” “In the 1800s, wood burning used to be the art of women,” Shirley Boyle, one of the demonstrators at the show, said. “Now it is a lost art.” Many of the crafts that will be /. .. displayed are made similar to the way they were done a century or more ago, some right there at the show. Boyle, of Lincoln, will be showing her wood artwork with country scenes burned into them. Toys, wall hang ings and souvenir items will be among the artwork she will sell. She also will demonstrate how she does her work at random times during the day. Basket weaving will be demon strated by Julie Doster, also of Lin coln. She will show a wide array of baskets with different weaving styles, from Easter to ribbed baskets. In addition, she will be weaving during the show. Chair caning will be done by Merle Breunsbach of Wymorc. Caning in volves weaving cane 10 form the seals and backs of chairs, leaving octago nal patterns. Breunsbach also will be demonstrating his craft on his own chairs. David Grantski of Beaver Cross ing will offer a different kind demon stration. He will tell stories of Indian lore and Indian conservation. His booth will include a teepee and several ani mal pelts, helping him describe how the Indians used every part of the game they hunted.
