Burton band to perform By Mark Munn Staff Reporter One of Lincoln’s finest will dis play his irreverence at the Summer time Nebraska Festival this weekend. Charlie Burton and the Hiccups are scheduled for take off at 4:10 p.m. Saturday on the Mainstage at 8th and P streets. This year marks the ten-year anni versary of the band’s prolific career. The musicians in the Burton orches tra include Phi! Shoemaker, legen dary guitarist extraordinaire, Dave Robel, the skin-beatin’ machine, David Boye, dogmatic bass god, and of course, Charlie Burton, the magnetic lyricist/ guitanst/entertainer. ’Green Cheese.” the band s fourth L.P, recently was released on Wild records. The alburn was recorded and produced by Shoemaker in his base ment. It has received national recog nition and is a hot commodity in record stores. According to Slioemaker, 1 there are not too many cluttering up the basement.” You better rush out and get yours while you still can. Charlie Burton and the Hiccups could flow through many forms of music but choose not to. They did draw some of their inspiration from rockabilly but cannot be pigeon-holed in such a way. They are anything but the “pompadoured posers” that Burton makes reference to. Playing songs lhatdistill all eras of savage rebelliousness, they are four sensitive guys who care little about their personal appearance and much about making you fee! what they call the “BIG BEAT!” Burton has an intense, demented stage presence. If Elvis were alive, he would have to be jealous. Burton’s deep, powerful voice can creep into your soul, He finds a bit of comedy in every aspect of the world and knows how to put it to song. |L Photo by J.
