Spain Continued from Page 6 in Mansfield, Ohio. The players of the Big Eight were no match physically, as they lost to the Spain and Venezuelan national teams before closing out their trip with a rout of Spain’s junior national team. The national teams consisted of players who will be representing their countries in the Goodwill Games in Seattle, which start Friday. Hayes averaged nine points a game, while Owens averaged about seven points. The team was led in scoring by Colorado’s Asad Ali, who aver aged 11.7 points. “It was nothing to brag about,” Hayes said, referring to his play over seas. ' ‘I was just concerned with play ing team ball and going out to win. “It was hard adjusting to how the other players played. It took us proba bly two games to adjust, but we got it together.” But it was recognizing those ad justments of the Big Eight’s rival players that will help in future, Hayes said. “I know their strengths and weak nesses,” he said. “We talked, and I learned what it was like on the other teams.” uwens sata nc ana Hayes made a lot of friends “I’m looking forward to playing against the guys I played with,” he said. “We made so many friends. I never really knew the other guys from the Big Eight until this trip.” Among the friends made was Iowa State coach Johnny Orr, who coached the team. “Coach Orr is a really nice man,” Owens said. “He’s a good coach and an easy going guy. He just had the attitude that we were just out there to have fun and win a few games.” Musical Comedy! | The Pirates | ilof fU JULY 27 - I AUG 11 I AUG 5 I Matinee td MAURICES HAS ADDED A MEN’S DEPARTMENT! , CELEBRATE | WITH 20% * I I EVERYTHING IN THE STORE!
