E Intense band pleases crowd By Mark Munn Staff Reporter There was an energy in the air and electricity pumping through a crowd of several hundred people at Omaha’s Ranch Bowl Monday night, as they waited in anticipa tion for the newly famed metal funkers from San Francisco, Faith No More. Circus Of Power, a grungy, tat tooed outfit opened the show. The crowd didn’t care how good the band was; they had decided to slam to the mystique of the situation. They were primed for the touring stars. People were being passed over heads before Faith No More even entered the scene. The crowd be gan chanting for their heroes of heaviness. As the boys look the stage, the crowd pushed toward it logela fresh smell. Drummer Mike Bordin pounded out a rhythm, and the band broke into “From Out Of Nowhere.” The intensity and vol ume instantly found the blood stream of the crowd, and the bangin’ be gan. A few minor stage problems didn’t slow down these mctal-funk pop masters. They beat out most of the songs off “The Real Thing,” their latest LP and they added a few new songs which were unfa miliar to most. All that could be seen of the crowd was hair flying. Bouncers passed around pitchers of water to cool the crowd off. The finale came in the only encore, when the band played their rendition of “War Pigs,” a Black Sabbath cover. Guitarist Jim Mar tin reproduced the guitar solo to the 32nd note on his one and only guitar. Ozzic should be proud of these boys. The band will take themselves and their giant lour buses west on their way back to their homeland. Don’t miss them next time around.
