    I Acorns need

“Acorns”
Post-Ambient Motion Production
“Jerry Lee Lewis’ 13-ycar-old
wifecousin rides in a convertible/
Flapping scarf and sunglasses/The girl
raised by goats she eats tin cans and
rags/Through 13 summers of bare feet
on hot cement.”
. So the lyrics start out Acorns self
titled album.
Describing the Acorns and/or
comparing them to any major band is
very difficult. Their playing style is
very uninspirational.
Jeanette Morgan (vocals) sings out
the lyrics in a quiet, non-threating
way. While listening to her voice, it is
easy to become distracted. It is not
unpleasant to listen to, it just doesn’t
reach out and grab you.
Alex McManus (guitar, vocals)
blends his voice with Morgan’s to
create a pleasant and nice sound. He
also has a quiet, non-threating voice.
The unmotivated effect is doubled as
they sing together.
Michael Fratt (bass) is the center
of their music. The steady and repeti
tive rhythm has the tendency to cause
the rest of the music to become simi
lar and boring.
Jeff Hcintzleman (drums) does a
good job of not drowning out the
vocals and following Fran’s bass. One
of his problems is he never com
pletely fills his Fills. It sounds like he
is setting up the listener for some
great solo, but it never happens.
The Acorns have some really good
lyrics but they cover them up with
simple and repealing music. As a
person listens to their album, itslowly
sinks to the background. The song
titles alone scream out for greatness,
only to be disappointed.
There seems to be a lot of raw,
untapped talent. They just need the
one spark that will ignite the rest of
their ability.
4‘Acorns” are based in Omaha and
frequently play the Haymarket area.
