school swimmers will be at the meet.
Huppcrt said the meet is useful
even though NCAA rules prohibit
coaches from talking with athletes.
He said he is glad the rule is in place.
“This isn’t a meet to talk to the
kids,” Huppcrt said. “This is their
big meet of the year, so the coaches
need to leave the kids alone.
“Talk to them when they’re in
their homes.”

A native of San Francisco, Jordan
said his transition to Lincoln life has
been as easy as his transition to Ne
braska baseball. He is thinking about
moving to Lincoln for good, he said,
because of the town’s close relation
ship with the team.
The weather wasn’t a shock, ei
ther, he said. And one benefit of L in
coln’s cold, he said, is the artificial
turf - and even surface — at Buck
Beitzer Stadium.
Ionian was drafted in the 10th round
last June by the Los Angc.es Dodg
ers, and he earned All-Northern Cali
fornia honors last year at Canada
College. Division I baseball in the
Midwest is a step up, he said, but he
has been prepared.
“I believe at each level up you
have to be little more mentally tough,”
he said. *
Part of the toughness, he said, is
needed to get ready for each game.
He said he played about 20 games a
year in high school, about4U a year ir
junior college, and he will have tc
play about 70 this season.

NU baseball game canceled for Tuesday
I The Nebraska baseball team’s
* game against Wayne State College
that was scheduled for Tuesday
night has been canceled.
The cancellation means the
Comhuskers will not play their next
home game until March 28, when
Nebraska faces Briar Cliff College
of Sioux City, Iowa, in a double
header at Buck Beltzer Field. The
games begin at 4 p.m.
Nebraska’s next game is Sun
day, when the Huskcrs travel to
Fort Collins, Colo., to face Colo
rado State. The Huskers also will
face Colorado State on March 26
and will square off against North
ern Colorado on March 27 in
Greeley, Colo.
