“We did keep them from scoring
off of the fast break most of the lime,”
he said. ‘‘Our kids got back and cov
ered well defensively.”
Nebraska was hampered by poor
shooting, especially from three-point
range. The Huskers connected on 13
percent of their shots from beyond the
19-foot, 9-inch line.
“We didn’t shoot well enough fr*!'
the three-point line to win the game,”
Bargen said. “You can’t do that against
Oklahoma.”
Bargen said Nebraska was inspired
by the surprising performance of
Colorado earlier in the day. The eighth
seeded Buffaloes shocked top-seeded
Missouri 90-86 in overtime in the
first round.
“That made us conscious ol the
fact that anything can happen in a
tournament like this,” Bargen said.
I Oklahoma holds on to capture Big Eight title
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Top
ranked Oklahoma opened a 17-point
second-half lead on the shooting of
William Davis and Jackie Jones, then
held on to beat Colorado 92-80 on
Sunday for the Big Eight tournament
title.
Davis and Jones scored 26 points
each as Oklahoma, 26-4, won the
| ---,
championship for the second time in
three years.
Colorado, meanwhile, saw its
remarkable run through the tourna
ment come to an end. The Buffaloes,
12-18, had upset lop seed and No. 6
Missouri in the first round and Okla
homa State in the semifinals for Coach
Tom Miller, who was fired after
losing to Nebraska earlier this year.
Oklahoma opened the second half
with a 10-2 run that gave the Sooners
their widest lead, 51-34, with 16
minutes remaining. Colorado pulled
within 11 a few minutes later, but
three straight jumpers by Damon
Patterson gave Oklahoma a 67-51
lead with 10 minutes left.

match.”
His semi-final win pushed Buxton
into the finals where he matched up
with Oklahoma’s Chris Bollin, ranked
second in the nation.
The scoring in the first period was
limited to a two-point takedown for
Buxton, but he took control in the
second period, going up 5-0 on the
way to a 10-1 major decision.
“I just got on a roll, and it started
to happen,” said Buxton, ‘It should
help me a lot in my seedings at na
tionals. Now I just want to continue
wrestling well and hope for the best.
