deadlier since their last time out. A
whole hour of this could prove lethal.
But rather than dealing the death
blow, Jourgensen and Barker prolong
the pleasant torture by slowing down
and diversifying.
Chris Connelly and The Grand
Wizard guest on the album, adding
some shrieking and rapping. Synco
pated drums take a stronger role, as
well as cathartic synthesizer riffs and
subtle voice sampling.
“So What.” an anthemic punk
cheer, bangs steadily along for more
than eight minutes, keeping every
thing interesting with depressing lyr
ics about the sorry state of today’s
general societal attitude.
And ingeniously enough, the al
bum closes softly with “Dream Song,”
a whispering ode to the odd. TTiis
industrial composite is a nice contrast
to the obliterating style “The Mind”
begins.
“The Mind” will have your cere
brum smoldering in seconds, whether
it’s wasted or tasted.
Try a couple of spoonfuls.
