Female sprinter hits career-best mark;
Nebraska team wins 28 of 29 events

Staff Reporters
Nebraska sprinter Ximena Restrepo
hit her career-best mark in the 400
meter dash Saturday and earned a
berth in the NCAA indoor finals this
March.
Restrepo teamed with dual-event

the Nebraska women to the team title
against Colorado State and Wichita
State. The Comhuskcrs finished with
108 points. Colorado State was sec

third with 19.
In the men’s competition, Nebraska
claimed the team title with *110 points.
Colorado State was second with 28,

Center to record her blistering 400
metcr clocking.
“The run felt really good,” said
Restrcpo, whose 53.3e second mark
bested her nearest competitor by seven
seconds.
“I like to run here,” she said.
“Everybody’s watching you and
cheering you on. It helps a lot.”
Nebraska track coach Gary Pepin
said he was extremely pleased with
Restrcpo’s performance because the
senior from Medellin, Colombia, has
been bothered by a hamstring injury
she suffered before the season began.
“She’s really a strong runner,”
Pepin said. “She’s very unusual in
the fact that she excels in all sprints,
from the 55 (yard dash) on up.”
Rcsh-Gdowski also excelled Sat
urday when she won the 1,000-meter
run in 2:47.94 minutes. That lime tied

Woods’ performance proved to be
critical, as it dropped Nebraska’s record
to 7-10 and 0-4. in the conference.
Nee said he was disappointed by
the loss.

Rcsh-Gdowski also won the mile
run in 4:53.32.
Nebraska won 28 of Saturday’s 29
events. The only event that the Husk
ers did not win was the women’s 600
metcr dash, which it did not enter.
Jacques van Rcnsburg was top
performer for Nebraska, winning the
mile run with 4:06.54. Senior Joe
Kirby finished second in 4:11.61.
“We turned in a lot of solid per
formances,’’ Pepin said, “and a few
really outstanding performances.”
Pepin said he was not surprised by
Nebraska’s success.
“I thought we’d win team-wise
fairly easily,” he said. “We’re a pretty
balanced team; and for someone to
beat us in a meet like this, they’d have
to be one of the better teams in the
nation.”
pit this season, as the Cyclones are 5

been a two-point loss to Iowa and a
double-overtime setback against
Creighton.
“We’ll be ready,” Woods said,
to hold on.
Nebraska was led by Carl Hayes,
who tallied a career-high 22 points.
“Hayes is an excellent player,”
Iowa State coach Johnny Orr said.
“He (Dapreis) did a real good job on
offense. Owens did a heck of a job for
them. He had some great plays at the
end.”
