David Landis of Lin coln said parental notification of ear piercing and distributing aspirin isn’t required by state statutes. And those parental notification questions are not comparable to abor tion, Landis said. “This is unlike any other law,” Landis said. Both sides know it’s a fight to the death, he said. committee urged to grant increased UPC requests From staff reports To ensure that University Program Council activities reach the most stu dents, executive director Julie Sher beck on Thursday urged CFA mem bers to grant the 21 percent increase UPC has requested. The Committee for Fees Alloca tion heard the second half of UPC’s 1990-91 budget request, which would cost each student $4.58. The Dances and Comstock Com mittee of UPC East requested a $1,483 increase in its budget. Joe Thelen, UPC East president, said the increase is necessary to offset costs involved with moving Com stock to its new site. Thclen said the Sights and Sounds Committee has requested a $1,384 increase to bring in a nationally rec ognized speaker. Candace Howard, president of UPC’s American Minorities Council, said the Asian American Special Events Committee has requested a $1,001 increase in its budget because it also wants to bring in a nationally recog nized speaker. The Chicano Special Events Committee requested an increase of $992 in its budget to add additional programming, which includes a party on the plaza at the Nebraska Union. Legislators were sorting through language in a bill that would have made ‘Peeping Toms” subject to criminal penalties. * The committee voted 7-1 to kill the bill after several committee members said the bill would be too difficult to clarify. Mary Campbell, speaking on behalf of Sen. Rod Johnson, of Sutton, introducer of the bill, said . the proposal is needed because of an incident that occurred in the Grand Island area recently. Campbell said a tanning salon owner was found photographing patrons in the nude. The county attorney had diffi culty bringing suit because the state does not have a statute to prosecute such cases, she said.
