Nebraska’s string of 19 consecutive seasons of finishing among the nation’s top 10 in either The Associated Press or United Press Inter national polls ended this year with the drubbing at the hands of the Semino les. Nebraska remains a great program, and will continue for many years to have good teams. But unless changes are made in the offensive scheme and defensive secondary, the Huskers will continue to be ranked higher than they deserve. After the game, Osborne said that with a few more mistakes, the Husk ers “could have been blown out.” These are not the words of a coach lies. ' . . . And please, save the crap about Osborne being the winningest active coach in college football. What coach couldn’t win at least 10 games a sea son with Nebraska’s schedule? I’m sure criticism like this will earn countless letters and grumbles, and rhetorical questions like ‘ ‘ Do you think you could do any better than Osborne does?” Maybe, maybe not. But for over SI00,000 a year, like Osborne cams, I’d sure as hell try. Green is a news-editorial major, and is a Daily Nebraskan sports senior reporter and sports columnist. Loss Continued from Page 6 _— But Missouri is a great team.” Hayes said the 6-7 Huskers can’t be distracted by the two losses to start the Big Eight season, especially with a game against Chicago State Tues day night at the Sports Center. “We did what we had to do today, and we lost,” Hayes said. “Now, we’ve got to come in Monday, prac tice hard and hopefully get a win on Tuesday.” -1 SPECIALS I'arakeets $g^5 Hind Fed, Baby PAM Cockatiels: Grey Xr White 69®® I “Raised In Our Store ” living in football reality. Yo, Tom, losing by 24 points is a blowout in anyone’s book. Well, almost anyone. I guess the coach that got blown out doesn’t see it that way. But criticism of Osborne and his outdated offensive play-calling brings tongue-lashing responses by self appointed Huskcr “superfans, who scold the “rotten, fair-weather fans’ and demand that they pack their bags and move to Oklahoma. What an interesting concept! I guess if you don’t give your heart and soul to the Huskcr football factory, you forfeit your right to exist as a Ne braska citizen.
